Panasonic Multimedia Camera Wins CEA Eco Award - Press Release

PANASONIC DIGITAL MULTIMEDIA CAMERA WINS TOP HONORS IN
CEA 2005 INNOVATIONS AWARDS PROGRAM, ECO DESIGN CATEGORY

LAS VEGAS, NV (January 5, 2005) - Panasonic's SV-AV50 digital multimedia camera has received the Best of Innovations Award in the Eco Design category in the annual Innovations Awards competition hosted by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). The SV-AV50 was selected based upon energy-efficient operation and the use of environmentally conscious materials, components and manufacturing processes.

The prestigious Innovations Awards program, which operates in conjunction with the 2005 CES, recognizes products in 27 categories that exemplify excellence in design and engineering. This year, more than 800 entries from 347 companies were evaluated based on innovation, value, aesthetics, and contribution to the quality of life.

"We're extremely honored to have been chosen for this prestigious award," says David Thompson, Director, Corporate Environmental Department, Panasonic. "At Panasonic, we strive to manufacture products that protect the environment through reduced energy consumption and high recyclability."

The Panasonic SV-AV50 won this prestigious award based on the following environmentally friendly criteria:
    • Significant energy savings: The product achieves reduced power consumption through the use of low-gravity circuit technology. This enables the SV-AV50 to consume 32 percent less wattage in operating power than its predecessor model from 2001, the SV-AV10. In standby mode, the model only consumes 0.1 watts, which is an 80 percent reduction from the 2001-year model.
    • Resource savings: By allowing for still photos, video recording and TV playback, as well as sound recording and music playback, the SV-AV50 eliminates the need for separate products to perform these functions.
    • Promotes recycling: The model uses a recyclable rechargeable lithium ion battery. Additionally, the cabinet of the model is composed of aluminum, which is easily recyclable.
    • Use of non-hazardous alternative substances: The SV-AV50 features reduced or eliminated usage of hazardous substances including lead, mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chromium.
