Pentax and Hoya Merger - Press Release

Pentax and Hoya have reached a tentative agreement for a merger to be finalized in the spring of 2007. The merger will leverage the strengths of both companies in the optics, imaging, medical, and information technology spaces. The name of the newly formed company will be Hoya Pentax HD Corporation.

Pentax is a respected high-end camera and sport optics manufacturer. They currently make 35mm and medium format film cameras, the Optio line of compact digital cameras, and recently released the Pentax K10D weatherproof, image-stabilized digital SLR.

Hoya is best known to photographers as a lens filter manufacturer.
