POWERS PHOTOGRAPHY WINS PPofA BEST DIGITAL ALBUM USING
LUMAPIX::FOTOFUSION
~~Artistic vision and elegant presentation score astonishing 99~~
Montreal, Quebec – 2nd Feb 2005 – LumaPix® congratulates Susan & Stewart Powers of Powers Photography for their first-place finish in the digital album competition at the Professional Photographers of America national conference in New Orleans. This significant win underlines the artistic and technical talent of this husband and wife team and also showcases LumaPix::FotoFusion®, the album composition environment that Powers Photography has adopted “Open Hearted and Full Throttle”.
The winning design, a 74-side flush-mounted digital album, presents a wedding shot by the Powers on a Fuji S2 Pro. Approximately 180 images were assembled into a narrative conveying the unfolding day and intimate moments between the subjects. The layouts are subtle, with red-framed borders over black backgrounds; the viewer’s attention remains on the captured moment and the quality of the photography.
LumaPix::FotoFusion was used to assemble, tune, correct and process the final layouts. It was also used to produce the source images for the digital version (DVD) of the album submitted to the competition, without quality loss.
FotoFusion is a high-performance digital image layout system for digital photographers that is ideally suited for professional flush-mounted album design. It provides real-time interaction and direct manipulation of images in a uniquely powerful user interface that accelerates production by orders of magnitude over Photoshop.
“This is the point of the Lumapix phenomenon: they took album creation, something that took hours and hours to do and ate our lives up, and turned it into a creative pleasure”, comments Susan Powers, designer of the winning album. “I can create magazine style albums on a production basis. We have friends with work in progress that are 10 albums behind; Powers Photography is totally up to date. I started a 40-side album the other evening and finished in time to watch the football game”.
FotoFusion enables users to arrange images in a resolution-independent canvas, cropping and rotating without image degradation; when the composition is complete, with text effects, jagged borders and image manipulation, the built-in rendering engine can reprocess the layout at any resolution without any loss of quality; references to the original source images are maintained at all times.
“What’s so amazing is the RIP inside the program. The quality is absolutely stunning”, enthuses Powers. “I just did a banner for a bridal shop with 35-40 images on a 24x54 inch banner – and the resolution on those images is just blow you away sharp. So amazing. I’m just thrilled.”
LumaPix is proud to be Powers Photography’s tool of choice and wish them continued good fortune in other upcoming competitions.
