    Is D2X the One?
    I seem to remember reading somewhere that Nikon will be introducing a new camera in February that will upgrade the D70. Is it the D2X? At the prices mentioned in other threads at this site ($3,000 to $5,000), this does not sound plausible.

    I've read some rumors of a "D200" similar to Canon EOS20D - maybe that's it.

    The near-future Nikon digital range:

    D2X = high-resolution Pro for studio & general use (12Mpix, 800 ISO max)
    D2H = high-speed Pro for sports (4Mpix 6400 ISO max?)
    Dxxx = low-end Pro/advanced amateur (announced February 2005)
    D70 = entry model (6Mpix, 1600 ISO max)

    The Dxxx replaces the D100 and will probably be priced similarly to the D100 and the Canon 20D. I expect the D70 will continue its career for another year or so. Nobody has yet seen the D2X, but the body is identical to the D2H, its just the sensor that changes.

    Price for the D2X will be set 30 days from release. Sounds like that will be the end of January so we'll know the price near Christmas. Guessing $4500-$5000.

    It's not a replacement for the D70, which will probably be around for a while. There are rumors that we'll hear about a D100 replacement in the Spring but I'm guessing that it won't replace the D70, just be a step-up. I can probably guess as good or bad as anyone, so that one might be in the $1500-2000 range.
