It was pouring rain yesterday, and I had an hour to kill between picking up my contact sheet at Modernage and meeting my friend at the gym. ICP is conveniently a block down from the lab, and I conveniently get in for free because of the company I work for, so I went in! There are several shows up. I only had time to see "white." It was a group show focusing on, well, aspects of being white as opposed to a racial "minority." One artist [I've forgotten her name, shame on me] did a series of photographs of men that answered an ad looking for men who thought they look like Jesus. The photos were soft-focus, and were quite beautiful. Another series that struck me was a study of a group of Germans who are avid Native American, um, fans, for lack of a better word. They are the equivalent of Trekkies, and have gatherings and wear their version of traditional N.A. garb.

There's also a Meatyard show that I didn't get to - but I will next week. and, of course, talk about it here, hopefully a little more in depth than this lite review!

BTW, there's GOT to be SOME photo shows in Utah!
Come on! NYC doesn't have a monopoly on it! :)

Utah is NOT a cultural wasteland, even though I know lots of people/artists that would argue that.
However...
Here is a link to the Utah Museum of Fine Arts at the U of U.

They are currently showing about two dozen photographs by the late jazz photographer
Herman Leonard.
