Or at least on a level that I enjoy. This has the feel of German Expressionism which is always depressing to view. I don't understand why people seek it out. Is this the finished product you envisioned when you took the shot or did it develop during the PS phase of the work? What do you want people to feel when they view it? f.side 10-07-2004, 10:22 AM I guess this kind of art never reaches me. Or at least on a level that I enjoy. This has the feel of German Expressionism which is always depressing to view. I don't understand why people seek it out. Is this the finished product you envisioned when you took the shot or did it develop during the PS phase of the work? What do you want people to feel when they view it? well, firstly, i don't consider it to be "art", though, i don't dismiss it as being artistic :) secondly, i'm really surprized you find it depressing. it was the least of my intentions. i was just making faces in front of the mirror and this particular "expression" captivated my imagination by being so "batty". i would say it looks kinda ugly and may be that's what repulsed you, but i enjoy constructed ugliness as a mean of exploring one's physique. besides, i'm so sick with conventional representation of Batman and other superheroes, that i try to create my own images when fantacising about them. and yes, this was pretty much the idea when i was shooting it. i only added some texture layers in photoshop, the main image remained untouched. what do i want people to feel... this kind of question always confuses me. may be because i don't make pictures for people, but rather for myself.. sort of to vent my imagination :) but i might try to answer it this way.. what do someone wants people to feel when they view a beautiful sunsent, portrait of a young girl or documentary photograph from the war zone? those all are very familiar emotions, right? so... i guess i want to find something different and uncommon, first - within myself, and then, may be convey it to others. megan 10-07-2004, 01:48 PM It certainly is artistic. Maybe it's the colors and textures used, but it calls to mind Dave McKean's work. I don't have a link handy, but if you are not already familiar with him, google him and you won't be disappointed. His photo illustrations have graced many an album cover, and of course, the venerated DC Comic's Vertigo series "Sandman" for quite a... spell. :) Great work, let's see more! Megan |
