View Full Version : photo project vs. gallery

I don't like how the photo project is supposed to be posted in our personal gallery, for the following reasons:

1) Perhaps the shot I take for the photo project is "good" as far as the project, but not good enough for me to display in my gallery, which I consider a place to post my best work.

2) I'd like more feedback and interaction between us and our comments to each other regarding the photos. Somehow having them in the gallery sortof "separates" the photos from the people behind them. They get lost in the massive quanitities of photos there. Plus, I don't want to post "casual" comments in the gallery, because it's so permanent there.

3) The photo project seems to disappear for long periods of time. I wish it was more active, and referred to more often.

I've avoided posting this for a long time because I'm not clear as to what the solution is, but I wanted to voice some opinions as to some things that hold me back from participating fully.

Thanks for your post. I understand all of your points and don't necessarily disagree. However, we need someplace to post the Photo Project images, and I think the gallery is the best place. There's a gallery index for each of the Photo Projects so the images are organized and easy to find.

I'm not sure what to say about how you want to organize your personal gallery. I have the same problem with my gallery. Take a look at it. It's full of camera test sample photos. If everyone takes the Photo Project more seriously, it won't be as much of a problem.

The Photo Project doesn't actually disappear. It's always there and you can always participate. The problem is I have a hard time fitting the maintenance and updating into my schedule. I apologize for that and I'll try to do better.

Let's keep talking about this. I'm willing to listen to people's ideas. I want the Project to work well and be an inspiration to people. I also think the gallery is the best place for it. What if I simply moved the position of it on the gallery index page?

Thanks. Hope you don't mind that I moved your post. I though it was a better fit in the Photo Project forum.

No, I don't mind that you moved it.

Hey, I don't know how this software works, but is there any way you could put some kind of a board linked to the photo project that we could have something of a "running dialog" about the photos posted in the project? Maybe you could call it, ummm .... "Photo Project Forum" or something like that .... ;)

I guess that's what this board is supposed to be for, huh? :p

I'm a newbie here and still trying to figure out how to use this site. Perhaps links on a member's profile page to their gallery and photo project pages would be useful. I don't know, cause as I said, I'm still new and learning the site.

Just a thought,
Sharon

To some extent you get the separation by using the forums.
Images I upload to the galleries aren't available in the forums - so if I want them in photo critique then they get uploaded twice.
On the other hand, photos I upload in the photo critique forum are not part of my gallery (thank goodness!) and so I can separate my gallery (of hopefully good photos) from the discussion in the forums.

I don't like every image I post to any gallery appearing in My Gallery, but I can delete the images after people have commented on them, so that would for me be the only way out.

I'm going to make more use of my galllery to upload a few of my best pictures.
Though since I don't have any good enough to get made sticky yet, I probably don't have anything really good enough yet - I'm obviously below the site's high standards.
Which is good, 'coz I have something to aim at.
