Hello all, 1st post. I have the D40 with the 55-200 zoom. I shoot lots of bird pictures. For an upgrade , which makes more sense. Buy the D40X and shoot with the 55-200( better res. and enlarging) or keep the D40 and buy the 70-300( to zoom in closer)? the cost is about the same. Thanks Jeff

if you mean the 70-300mm VR lens, I would suggest that over a D40x. You'd only be gaining about 864 pixels across and 592 vertically if you changed cameras, so it wouldn't give you that much additional cropping room. The 70-300mm VR is not only going to give you a longer focal length, but is also a much better lens optically.

I have to agree with Harrison, unless you are going to put some more money into it and go for a much better model keep the body you have and buy the glass.

Lenses are almost always the better investment. They'll move with you to the next camera and for most photographers, they offer more new opportunity than a new camera will.
