I photographed my daughter on the beach with a D70 and 85mm 1.8. Tell me what you think and how you would improve it.

Personally, I would have turned it upside down. I think THAT would make friends and family scratch their heads... :D

I like it. Great colors, the background is abstract at first, then becomes obvious. I would cropa bit off the top and bottom, concentrating on the hoizontal lines broken up by her body and motion.

One thing I have to mention here is the shape of her body. What I learned from animation is that for a pose to be most effective and quickly recognizable, it should be clear in silhouette. If you were to make a silhouette out of her right now, it would be just as effective at telling what she's doing, and that makes for a strong pose. It's not very traditional thinking in photography, but I think it applies really well to this image.

I love what you're doing withe the D70.

This is good. I like the pose, very clean so to speak. A great moment to capture. I also agree with the crop suggestion. The color of the sunlit sand above in contrast to the rest is effective. I only think it would have been improved by some of this light being on or nearere to her. Still, a great looking image. ( turning it upside down would be interesting, try it and keep both versions.

I agree with the crop, too. Great shot!

Let us know when she becomes an Olympic Gymnast....

I think it's beautiful!!! What a geat moment in time to capture.

The only thing I would do is the crop off the bottom. I love the contrast of the sunlight in the background.

Very nice shot Lavalamp, love the colors and the dynamic pose! I like how clean you got it, had I attempted the same shot I would have inevitably blurred it somehow..! ;) It would be very cool to have a series of these on the wall. Really like it!
Take care,
Eva
