OK I know I fell way short of what deckcadet did, but I gave it my best shot this afternoon. Wanted to catch the ball in mid flight to the plate. I was trying to do it with the 300mm f4 in manual focus. I prefocused half way to the plate and did my best to time the ball coming in. I won't say I was totally dissatisfied but I still want a D3 and all the neat things it will do.

Very nice! They don't let us shoot from behind the plate when there's a batter.

Well that is through the fence of course, but if you get close enough not much of a problem. I guess we do have a few perks shooting at the high school level, but I'd rather have the restriction and get to shot the action you have there in the SEC. Top notch baseball played there.

Very very good. I haven't tried doing this yet. But I'm willing to venture it isn't a simple shot to pull off.

Thanks to the lookers and the commenters. To be honest I got a lot more positive shots than I thought I would. Sure I missed bad a few times but all in all I had several that I though were reasonably good. Again I will say they didn't have the jaw dropping effect of Harrison's shot, but than again it was a different technique with decent equipment but by no means state of the art.

I think you did a fine job, OT. After seeing the other shot I wondered the same thing to myself - if it'd be possible to just focus somewhere along the ball's path. Granted the sharpness isn't quite the same, but all things considering how you accomplished it, I think those are excellent results.

Maybe soon I should post some of the other shots :)

I look forward to seeing some more SEC action. Everything is faster and crisper when you move to a higher level of competition like that.
