View Full Version : A Sunset. . .
gahspidy 07-25-2004, 07:24 PM My daughter requested for her 16th birthday that she would like her room to get a makeover. So that I did. Came out very nice. She is very happy about it and said she would also like a nice sunset photo from me to be framed and hung in her room ( along with some other shots and pics) I then realized that I have no sunset shots!! :0 So I finally got one the other week when I was at the Wildlife Refuge and took several different shots at different setting with different lens. This one is the best of the bunch.
I have not showed her the shot yet and I'm sure she will like it, but whats the forums opinion on this?
Thanks. . .
ChaosCubed 07-25-2004, 07:32 PM ....wow.
It's beautiful! I really love the reflection on the water, and the dark foreground. Even the ducks add something to this shot.
I love it! I think your daughter will too....:)
kkraczek 07-25-2004, 07:34 PM I think it's beautiful... nice colors, great silhouetting, and added interest with the ducks. She should love it! (especially since it's personal! :) )

Hello Gary,
This picture arguably is superbly crafted. There is quite a lot going on yet it does not feel busy at all. Everything fell right into place from the silhouetes of the ducks at the bottom to the location of the clouds. It looks like you were a sunset specialist.
kudos

villenadecorte 07-25-2004, 09:41 PM Great job! Everything draws you in and then upward, the ducks are a great touch.

jcharris 07-26-2004, 03:31 PM Hi Gary
This is a great shot ! I also do like the reflection of the sun on the water . Think it will make a beautiful framed photograph to hang in her room .
Greetings
james
gahspidy 07-26-2004, 07:35 PM Thanks all for the time to look and comment. Very encouraged by the positive feedback.
Kate, I'm glad you mentioned the dark foreground as that was something I was concerned and at first unsure about. But the fact that it is slanted helps it fit in as an added dimension I think. The original had a bit more foreground going all the way down to the other end but i cropped it from the bottom a bit to bring the horizon down a bit and to have the foreground fall off before reaching the other end of the frame.
PuckJunkey 07-27-2004, 01:25 PM Another great lanscape Gary. I would say the only thing that might be an improvement is if you worked some curves / H&S on the sky to remove some of that greenish tinge. Otherwise, poster-time.
gahspidy 07-27-2004, 09:08 PM Thanks PuckJunkey, I appreciate your input as always. Have not seen you on for a while. I'm glad to see you back.Hope you are doing fine and have been making the most with your D70.
PuckJunkey 07-28-2004, 07:24 PM Thanks, Gary. I have been more or less absent for a while, but I do lurk about when I can't post. July photo ops were limited, but back on track now. Got some interesting wild flower and butterfly shots last weekend. If I get some time to work them a little bit I may post them tomorrow or the next day.
Anyway, keep the good landscapes coming. It's always positive motivation to see others producing such quality work....
ckozo 07-29-2004, 05:31 AM wow, this looks great. if i had to be overly picky, i would say the weeds/bush in the lower left corner distracts a little from the clean lines of the shore. but really, this is a great photo.

Thank you for your time to comment.
I think I agree with you about the weed/brush in the left of frame. I look at it and wonder whether I like it or if it is taking away, and i think the clean lines might be more appealing and also allow attention to be more quickly focused on the geese on the water
I may clone them out before printing this one out.
RJphotography 07-29-2004, 11:33 AM Lovely photo - I'm envious....however I find the figures at at the bottom left of the photo quite distracting - maybe because they don't really look like ducks just blobs? I'd be inclined to maybe crop them out - but just personal preference! Love the colors and mood. Way to go.

Yes, I thinkm you are referring to the same thing ckozo was. Those are bushes and branches, (I think). I think I will clone them out . Thanks for your comments.
