From the Canon USA site.
This firmware update (Version 1.0.8) incorporates the following improvements and fixes.

2.Fixes a phenomenon in which the Image Stabilization operation emits a sound from the lens when IS lenses are attached to the camera.
3.Fixes a phenomenon in which a part of the image looks unnatural when reviewed on the LCD.
4.Corrects errors in the Spanish and Norwegian menu screens.

Well i do notice #3! When I used to take photos of red objects, the edges were jagged and horrible looking on the lcd. The new patch completely rids this problem!
I've only had #2 happen once in a blue moon.. Can't say for sure that its fixed but I'm sure if they say it is, it is.. lol

Are there any tricks to loading this to your camera? On certain applications, like DVD burners, you can really hose your device if you don’t do it just right. I lost my mouse on my computer when I tried to update the firmware on my DVD burner; luckily, I was able to just plug in a USB mouse, WHEW!!!!! I just got my 40D and I don’t want to f**k it up! Any advice/tips?
Thanks,
Jaybird

It's a very simple process for loading this on your camera. If you click on the link in Mike's original post, there is a link to a PDF file on that page that will walk you through the entire process.

all you do is toss it to your card(after extracting) and go to the firmware section of the camera. Click firmware and update to the version it shows you. I've never had any problems with any firmware updates before. If you do everything it says to, you should be alright.
