Just ordered a Canon PowerShot S5 IS today. Can't wait for it to arrive. I have been reading many posts in the last week or so. I initially was going to buy a Sony H7. But after reading all the reviews went with the Canon. I have 2 other Canon cameras ( PowerShot SD200 ELF and a Elan II). This camera should be easy to use. I am sure I made the right choice.

Hi pennywise, welcome to PR :) Don't be afraid to introduce yourself outside of the Canon forum too :D We have a Welcome!! thread here (http://forums.photographyreview.com/showthread.php?t=22123) or another that is a little more in depth, Photographyreview: The People (http://forums.photographyreview.com/showthread.php?t=10010). You'll be hard pressed to find a friendlier or more helpful group of people anywhere else on the web so don't be afraid to jump right in. Looking forward to seeing some pics and please let us know if you have any questions

What type of batteries do you all recommend? I have never had a camera that used AA's. I know I need to pick up some rechargeables - but what kind? Thanks

I highly recommend Energizer rechargeables. I have a set of I think they're 2300mAH and they have super long battery life and a fast recharge. You should be able to pick them up at any Walmart.

Hello and welcome,
I also agree, get some Energizer batteries. I pick mine up at Sam's Club, I forgot the price but it came with 8 AA 4 AAA and a charger.
Like Xia_Ke said, take a look around, we also have a critique forum that is really helpful.

I have found the new hybrid rechargeables very good.
Lower capacity than ordinary rechargeables, but they last longer on a charge sitting in a bag waiting to be used. So by the time I come to use them maybe 3 weeks after charging them, they last longer !
In the UK they are labelled HYBRIO branded as Uniross. Not sure what they would appear as in the USA.
