I can see that the black frame is a big part of your composition but it reduces the image posted here to pretty small and hence it is hard to pick up a lot of detail. I can see that the black frame is a big part of your composition but it reduces the image posted here to pretty small and hence it is hard to pick up a lot of detail. Actually, I simply thought the photo may look better with a dark background. Here's without the background: http://gallery.photographyreview.com/data/photography//500/Whirlpool.jpg Xia_Ke 03-05-2008, 05:24 PM Very nice AE, I like this one a lot. Well done  Greg McCary 03-05-2008, 05:27 PM I like the second one much better. Very nice. Frog 03-05-2008, 05:38 PM I like the first one but just wish I could see it larger. I think it would make a fine large print with a simple frame. CLKunst 03-05-2008, 05:49 PM Whoo Hoo! Now that's powerful! No sense in diminishing a good thing AE! I was going to comment on your first image by saying that I really like everything about except the "top weighted mat" which felt very weird in contrast to this striking picture but now I can go ahead with a straight up praise critique! I love flower abstracts so much more than the straight ahead "Here's the whole flower and it's Pot" shots. This is taking a natural beauty and presenting it "Just So". Very strong and simple composition, striking color and tones throughout, excellent DOF. Hard to go wrong with something this right. Solid. AgingEyes 03-05-2008, 09:32 PM Thanks for dropping by and the nice comments, folks! The top-weighted black mat is totally intentional...so that it looks a bit different :D ...but also has to do with the composition of the original photo. Now that I've thought about it a bit more, I think I have another idea...if I still keep the black mat. Overbeyond 03-05-2008, 10:39 PM I think the first one you posted is excellent and if ever a large black border/background complimented an image, it is here. I would change the position of the picture in the frame but that is just personal choice. A large print here, border and all, is what's called for. Full marks for this. I like the format of the mat in your first image, it is just that with the size limits of our postings here it was hard for me to make out the details of the image. I like the look of that unbalanced mat with the image (but I am looking forward to seeing what other presentation you have in mind). spiraleyes 03-06-2008, 06:44 AM I love the detail and clarity of the second picture. Nice work! AgingEyes 03-06-2008, 03:38 PM Overbeyond and spiraleyes, thanks for the praise ! I like the look of that unbalanced mat with the image (but I am looking forward to seeing what other presentation you have in mind). Well, it's just more un-balanced :) 51968 Yeah, I'm not really the creative kind. |
