Earlier I posted about a soft focus problem. I have narrowed it down to the combination of using this lens in wide angle and taking a landscape scene. In my case if I try to use auto focus on anything about 70ft or further away it will not lock on to the subject properly. It will focus much closer than the subject resulting in the soft focus. If I am zoomed in the lens and auto focus works fine. It only seems to have the problem when using wide angle. I do not have any filters on the lens. When I use the lens in auto focus and try and take a picture of something like the house I posted in the critique forum it focuses at about 15ft or just past that on the lens causing the soft focus problem. Sometimes the lens will not try and focus at all. Focusing at subjects closer up seem to focus just fine.

If any of you that have this lens and have a couple of minutes would you see if you get the same results. The general picture will look in focus but just be soft. It is even more noticeable if the picture is enlarge slightly. Thanks, Jeff

What focus mode are you in?

I was going to ask the same, what focus mode?
You may need to go to spot focus.

I think I have figured out the answer, but will have to verify before posting. I changed the ISO from 100 to 200 and put the focus mode on dynamic and it is much better. Now I need to go back and try each one by itself to see which one actually fixed the problem, Jeff

Bumping the ISO by a stop will gain you either a one-stop faster shutter speed or a little more depth of field by having one more stop of aperture (or a partial stop of both), but I don't think this is the problem judging by what you've written.

Dynamic AF works for moving subjects, but the single area and "S" mode should do what you want (assuming non-moving focus point). But, whatever works - there are tons of combinations to try. Let us know which one is the magic bullet.
