I think this shot is very good, Check your White Balance use manual settings for this if you aren't already it looks just a tad gray, also just a little longer on the shutter speed to allow the shot to be a little brighter.

that is just nit picking over all this is good. great emotion, the subject in all black is out of focus but it is apparent that isn't the focus of the photo.

i can't really offer any advice about the white balancing because I am on my iPod at the moment, but it looks like you were able to freeze the most important part of the action, the faces. It could use a little post processing but you have a good image to work with.

Thanks for the positive comments and all tips. I'll try to up the ISO a bit now that I have tried NetImage to remove noise. I used the auto WB - what are your suggestions there?

to set your own white balance.

I haven't messed with WB before - how do you suggest setting?

a neat trick for setting white balance is to put a coffee filter over the front of your lens. Then set your camera on AWB and take a picture with the camera aimed at the lights. Try to use a slower shutter speed if possible. Also make sure that you get what the camera says is a correct exposure. Then go into your camera, select custom wb and select the image you just took as your base image. Then remember to select custom for your wb selection.
