Good subjects but they don't stand out enough, imho. Perhaps if you pushed the saturation and contrast?

Actually the problem as I see it is the quality of light. Those nice clear skys are nasty for photography-the light is too blue and there is too much contrast.

The second image really doesn't do anything for me but the I like the first image a lot (except for the quality of the light). Although normally I am against splitting an image right down the middle I think it works here and is in fact a large part of the success of this one. Now, get back there when the sun is lower in the sky.

I agree with MB1. I think the second would work better with tighter cropping. I would try cropping it to fill the frame with the bush. Eliminating the rock and ground would help the shot in my opinion. Really interesting composition on the first shot.
