and also, why do professional cameras not use lense hoods, instead they use flat black metal rectangles to block stray light?

and why are professional cameras so heavy :p

is the video quality from the Canon GL2 as good as TV broadcast quality video?

Thats alot of questions for one post.
1. Bolex, Arrifles and Panavision are just a few names of professional film cameras. I haven't personally shot film in about 25 years, so I haven't been keeping up to date.

2. Pro cameras use a matte box instead of a round or more normal scalloped lens hood for versatility. It allows the cinematographer to put in special filters, block or flag out other light sources, etc. It's rectangular to fit the aspect ratio of video or film.

3. Professiional electronics, lenses and decks are just bigger and heavier. They are more robust to stand up to the heavy workload put on pro gear.

4. In some smaller markets in the US, the GL2 woiuld be considered broadcast quality. What limits it from more professional use is the lack of professional audio connectors, the relatively small size of the chips and its lack of "heavy dutiness"
