Have you noticed any particularly silly signs?
Like on a packet of peanuts "may contain nuts" may, MAY ?
On the coffee machine "warning dispenses hot liquid" it had better give me hot coffee !

Post away, here's my first one ...
This was the third one we passed that stated the obvious - do the highways agency think we are so dumb they need signs to tell us it's foggy ?

I don't know if it qualifies as silly, so much as interesting and unique:

Pretty funny timing. I shot this this afternoon and I was wondering if there was a sign thread.

i love the "no left turn on red" at stop lights. as in, if the sign weren't there, it would be ok to do it.

i think there was also a court case a couple years back where a guy sued hood because he was lactose intolerant and the milk bottle didn't say "contains dairy products" and won.

Actually, in Oregon you can make a left turn against a red light if you're either going from a one-way road to a one-way road, or from a two-way road to a one way road. I only know that last one because I recently had to re-take the written exam, and it was the only question I missed. In light of this, those signs make more sense.

This isn't a silly sign. As a mater of fact it's pretty common around our neck of the woods. If you know what good for you you watch out for these signs. You can come up on one of these rigs in a hurry and they are not moving very fast.

Same here in Illinois, unless one of those signs is posted. That, or I've been lucky. :)

Great idea for a thread - funny ones so far!

I wish I had a photo of it, its hard to shoot while driving, but while they were working on a freeway off ramp that had two lanes, there was a sign on the left that said, "Left lane closed ahead", and right across from it there was another sign that read, 'Right lane closed ahead"

I couldn't figure this one out - to me it doesn't make sense........am I missing something?
I couldn't stop to shoot.

Not sure the official name is, but there are new digital above-the-freeway signs all over NJ now. Twice I've seen this one that read:

"For emergencies, road construction and delays ahead: connect to "njroad.....com"
(not the correct website).

Now, do they want me to turn on my laptop and connect to their website to get this information? Duh!!!!!!!!!

Michael, that sign made me laugh. One of the best ones I can recall was on a Superman Halloween costume for a kid that stated Wearing this costume does not give you the power to fly, or something to that effect.

Cheers,

What a fun thread this is!

This pic was taken at Baker Street underground station in London. The walls are decorated with tiles depicting the pipe-smoking detective who lived just around the corner. The signs made me giggle. :D

I saw a couple signs on the interstate on the way home from Wyoming this week that said something like: "Road Closed Ahead When Flashing" but there were no lights on the sign to flash. Wish I would have got a pic...

Larry....you will never know what torture this Yo woman has just put me through to get this dumb picture posted. First the picture is too large (even tho its the same one thats in the gallery)....does this mean I have to reduce anything I post in a forum down smaller then I already have it? This may be my last trip into the "dark side" ..and it may not be..lol. Thanks for pushing me Larry...you have been so great with the encouragment.

P.S. thanks so much Cathy for hanging in there with me.

LOL!

Thats just what parents DON'T Want!

My parents, at least.

The Puppy would be fine with me, but I would never give a kid that much caffeine.

I can't remember who, but somebody on here took this picture. I remember seeing it in a thread and saved it.

Welcome to the "Dark Side" Dana!!! That is a great sign!!!

Since you are a regular poster to the gallery, you can link your photos right from your gallery to your posts in the Forums. I don't know how large the files are that you post in the gallery but it's really easy to link them to the fourm once you do it once or twice.

i love the "no left turn on red" at stop lights. as in, if the sign weren't there, it would be ok to do it...

Actually, this is not really that weird, as there are places where you can turn left on red. One way onto one way comes to mind. Also, many think they can turn left on a red arrow, when the regular light is green...

Keep in mind a lot of these signs are not really directed at the driver, but rather so the cops can prove they were in violation in court...

This is a great one, Dana! And a scary thought.

About posting images on the forum - you are correct. The limits are different on the forum. That's to keep the thread load times down and keep the threads formatted correctly. The gallery actually doesn't have any limits (that anyone will notice, anyway). The gallery and forum serve two different purposes and hence the differences. If I plan to post something on the forum, I size it accordingly. If I want a larger version in the gallery, I use the edit link in the gallery to replace the smaller image with the larger version.

Hope that clears things up for you.

in the inimitable words of basil fawlty..

"you have a masterful grasp of the bleedin' obvious."

there was another photo/sign that we had doing the rounds during katrina.

bunch of rednecks in full hunting gear in a swamp boat. sign said "you loot. we shoot."

also connected with katirna when everyone asks me if i was here during katrina (actually i have been here 30 years) i say yes.

and in fact we helped out a lot. we sent 2 plane loads of scallies to help with the looting..

oh well, i'll get me coat.
