This was my original shopping basket:
Sigma Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro DF Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS
Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer USM Autofocus Lens

And I switched it to this due to high reviews of them and being an (L):
Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Autofocus Lens
Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM Autofocus Lens

For those who knows, obviously, the second option is high in price but if price was not an option, would you have done the same?

I tried covering all my ranges and for everyday lens, I heard the 24-105 would be a beast to have. My only concern is that losing the speed, is it really worth it? I know that in one of my other post, someone mentioned that some don't want to lose the speed but honestly, with the second option, is it good to say that I'm not really losing out on the speed and that the second option is the right or best way to go.

Are there any other options that you guys could think of?

Lastly, another one that was proposed as a replacement for the Sigma was a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8. Is this a better way as well?

Thanks, please respond, I have to finalize my order.

Your second choice is a nice one, but if price were not an option, then my choice would be the 24-70mm f2.8L and the 70-200mm f2.8L I prefer faster glass. So much so that those are the two telephoto lenses I own, along with a fist full of primes.

If IS is big on your list then you might want to consider the 24-105 you have listed and the 70-200 f2.8 IS. I shoot a lot of sports so IS is not something I find I need or miss. I prefer speed over IS as I am not opposed to using a tripod or monopod when necessary for slower shutter speeds.

My choice was the 24-70 L 2.8 and the 70-200 L IS 2.8
For me, speed is worth it.

Though I admit I bought the 50mm f1.8 and not the f1.4 :)

I prefer faster, but IS is also important to me - I have trouble holding lenses steady.
If there was a 24-70 L IS 2.8 it would be perfect :)

I went with the 17-55mmL EF-S F/2.8. Is this a good choice, I figured I won't need anything really between the 55-70 range. Right decision with this or not?

When I got my 5D, I went with the Canon 24-105 IS L and the Canon 100-400 IS L. My next purchase will be the Canon 16-35 L II and then I will have it pretty well covered. Not cheap, but I saved for about a year and the stock market has been good to me.

Cheers,

WesternGuy

The 16-35mm f/2.8 L II is a beautiful lens you will not regret getting. Just posted a review of it here.
