You are right. But, and you might not be able to tell from the computer screen, the photo was taken in the middle of the day. Even with an EV adjustment and the resulting dark foliage, the water is still sort of blown out. Yeah, I have to go back on a cloudy day.

Yes, i can see it looks to be middle of day, and also seems to look somewhat overcast as well. Not a whole lot you could do at the time of shooting but I thought that you may be able to recover some detail in the foliage through post processing.
Aside from the fact that the lighting is rather flat, the overall composition of the scene looks good.
