First I would like to say Thanks to Larry, Brent and John and the rest of you for taking the time to look and give advice on my previous post. :aureola:

These are my last track pics for the season and they are also my best thanks to you all. For sure there is plenty of room for improvement but I think I am headed in the right direction. Thanks for pointing the way.:p

Lets start with the Shot-Put. I was going to PS the annoying pole in the background out before posting these but then I might never get around to it so for the record imagine there is no pole. I shot these the best I could trying to avoid surrounding clutter. The Botkins Shot-Putter IMO is my best sports shot to date. I am still working on my discuss and High-Jump. I may never get the discuss. The pole-vault shots came out better than I expected. I forgot to change my metering from evaluate mode. So I had to lighten them a bit in PP. On the pole-vault would you leave the clubhouse roof in our PS out?

not bad at all, especially the shotput series. As for the pole vault and clubhouse roof, if were a newspaper shot I probably leave it as it's not too ditracting, but for a print, yeah, I'd get it out of there. I would however fix the colors on the pole vault pics.

The track season is just over way to soon. I know you are like me you feel your just getting the hang of it and it ends. These shoots are much improved over the first efforts. Nice job. Love the shot series also.

How were you able to that photos of the shot-putters face on. What lens did you use?

Welcome to PR rovowen.
I was sitting about 10 feet from the end of the pit with my back leaning against a fence. I left that day with grass stains on my knees and backside. The focal length of these pictures ranged from 230-300mm. The lens is the Canon EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 III. I paid $175 for it when I bought it last year. It is the only telephoto lens that I own that has that type of range. So that is what I use. If you look at the description of the lens I think it says suitable for wildlife and sports. I have found it lacking in both. Don't get me wrong I have taken some nice pictures with this lens but I would not recomend it if you were looking for a lens to shoot sports or wildlife with.

Thanks Larry and John, The Shot-Put series was my favorite too. And if anyone else is interested moving from shooting in auto to manual has also made a difference for me.

John as for fixing the colors in the Pole-Vault I couldn't agree more. Buckling down and taking the time to learn PhotoShop is rising to the top of my list of need to do things. Going over a mental list of my camera settings and matching it with what I'am shooting wouldn't hurt either.
