Greg McCary 03-17-2007, 06:54 AM Here are my five pictures from Rome. This will be the Official thread for the COTW pictures.
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k35/cosmonaut1959/romulusansremus.jpg
The first picture is of Romulus and Remus a Statue donated to the city of Rome by Benito Mussolini in 1929. For naming our city Rome, I guess?
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k35/cosmonaut1959/bravesmarquee.jpg
Rome is the home of the baby Braves, The Rome Braves minor league team. Every now and then a big star like Chipper Jones will play here when recovering from an injury.
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k35/cosmonaut1959/broadstreet01as.jpg
Here is a view of downtown Broad street, the oldest part of town, The cotton Block, looking north.
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k35/cosmonaut1959/mcdonalds.jpg
Here me and Rufus eating breakfast at Mcdonalds just before I take him on a tour of Rome. Ok, I am not used to being on the wrong side of the viewfinder. My work partner Bill took this picture.
http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k35/cosmonaut1959/catfishin-1.jpg
I took Ruffus catfishing, here is where the Oostanaula and Etawoh rivers meet to form the Coosa river.
The camera is now with zrfraser. So Z, when you get ready to post your five picture post them here.
Greg
MonkeyWrench 03-17-2007, 10:21 AM Way to get us off to a great start Greg. I love the shot of the City. Did Ruffus catch any catfish? Nice Cameo too.
Was that Rufus's breakfast or Bill's? Why isn't the line through the last guide?
Thankyou for showing us your town!
This is going to be fun to watch and do!
mtbbrian 03-17-2007, 04:11 PM I can't wait until he gets out on the road. I am still waiting to hear from zrfraser. He is due any time now.

Greg McCary 03-17-2007, 04:39 PM Monkeywrench, sorry we had some bad luck, nothing but an old shoe.LOL
Frog, That's Ruffus's food. And it's not in the last guide so Ruffus can get a little more leverage being so short.LOL
We had a great time together, I can't wait until he gets out on the road. I am still waiting to hear from zrfraser. He is due any time now.
Greg
mtbbrian 03-17-2007, 04:52 PM Z has had Ruffus a few days, he should be posting soon. I can't wait either.

walterick 03-17-2007, 08:40 PM Hey Lookin good Ru!
I figure by the time he makes it around the world and down to Arizona he'll be pretty jet lagged and probably about a year older....
Here is a link to the maps that Gary drew that trace his route around the globe...

zrfraser 03-22-2007, 10:39 AM Sorry for the long time between postings but here is my photos with the camera, however, they aren't from Rome, but rather Massachusetts and Vermont.
I hope you enjoy.
The first image is from Ohare Int'l Airport
Second image from the People's Pint in Greenfield Massachusetts (foreground beer is the 10th anniversary special, and the background beer is a Farmer Brown).
Third image is a very weary eyed me, having some coffee in Vermont
Fourth image is my new fiance, I asked he to marry me on the empire state building in NYC
Fifth image is our initials in the 2 feet of snow that kept me stranded on vacation for another 2 days.
Sadly I forgot to take any pics of Rufus, so Almo will have to do a better job than me.
Z
Greg McCary 03-22-2007, 04:07 PM Congrats on the engagement Z, I hope you guys had a good time. I heard the weather kind of turned bad on you guys. I hope all is well. When is the wedding?
I guess the camera is off to Florida to Almo.
Look out Almo, Ruffus is on his way...
Greg
manacsa 03-22-2007, 04:42 PM This is awesome. I'll make sure my two year old doesn't tear Ruffus up. Well, he might be three by the time I get the camera :D
Is Rufus actually accomanying the camera?
Greg McCary 03-22-2007, 05:42 PM Yes, He's in the box. Try and include him a couple of pictures and start him a blog. I created him and ID and included his password in the box, so be creative.
Greg
gahspidy 03-22-2007, 06:26 PM Great start, Greg, and Z. Congrats Z on what appears to be an excellent choice.
ken1953 03-22-2007, 06:41 PM Patiently waiting here in West Texas...I should have a pretty good Texas drawl by the time he gets here...
Great start greg and Z
Ken
zrfraser 03-22-2007, 08:12 PM Thanks for the congrats guys. I shot a lot of BW film while on vacations so I will try to get to the darkroom and see how they turned out.
Ruffus_Griffin 03-27-2007, 06:56 AM Greetings from sunny Florida!
I would like to thank Zack for a great time. It was a real blast!

Anyway, I hope to have some pics to post here soon.
Greg McCary 03-27-2007, 02:10 PM I am glad you arrived safely, we miss you here in Rome. That three day ground can get rough I suppose. I hope Zack insured your guitar. Watch that spring break crowd and don't get Almo in to much trouble. I can't wait for the pictures, knowing Almo I am sure to be in for a suprise.
Greg
Ruffus_Griffin 03-29-2007, 09:19 PM almo has not yet finished assembling his offical pics for the gallery, but I have a few I wanna share.
I have really been diggin' my stay here in Jax with almo, he is one cool cat! We are gonna go downtown over the weekend and then it looks like I will be hitting the ole' dusty trail again on Monday to hang out in Charlotte, North Carolina with Obie. Get the pit fired up Obie, 'cause I am down for some world famous NC BB-Q!!!
Anyway, here are my pics...

Tyson L. Sparks 03-30-2007, 05:05 AM Great pictures guys, I can't wait for my turn. I have big big plans for Ruffus. I might even strap him to my RC plane and take him for a ride. I see a fire truck in ruffus's future.
Old Timer 03-30-2007, 05:33 AM Nice job there Almo. Looks like you were a perfect host for our little friend Rufus.
Ruffus is so going on an Urban Exploration Adventure when he gets here.
Great shots so far.
Love how you got yourself into those photos but I do wish I could have seen you with Almo.
When you get here in the distant future, prepare to be laid back unless its handcar race day for which I have you signed up against some burley loggers.
Alison 03-30-2007, 11:03 AM LOL
That's fantastic!!!
SmartWombat 03-30-2007, 12:17 PM Alison, is your name down on the list?

Didache 03-31-2007, 08:41 AM My mouth is watering at the thought of some of the places I might take ol' Ruf when he gets to London .. tea with the Queen? shake hands with Tony Blair? (if he's still there!) try on one of those bearskin hats the grenadier guards wear at the palace? :D

I did. I just put something in there that related to my home town. A small clock from the visitors center. LOL
Greg
Yay! Can't wait for Ruffus to get here! I'll bet he has some crazy stories of spring break in FL. I hope he doesn't arrive with a hangover, Almo. He'll be sure to get some great NC 'Q while here!
adina 04-02-2007, 08:23 AM Almo,
Those are great! Love the shot of your school, and the breakdancing, and watching tv, and in the mailbox...okay, I love them all.
adina
Alison 04-02-2007, 10:43 AM Alison, is your name down on the list?
I was thinking Rufus could take a road trip to visit a few other folks this side of the pond...
Yes, my name is down on the list
I was going to make this private, but I felt that the whole list deserved this apology as much as Obie and Greg.
I have kept Ruffus here in florida for almost 2 weeks now. It has been a rough week for me and I have just not found the time to send him off. However I will be doing so tomorrow. I am very sorry for the delay.
As for Ruffus, he has been having a blast with the local flora and fauna, if you catch my drift...:wink5:
Greg McCary 04-06-2007, 02:30 AM Almo,
When I first started the CATW the one thing that I wanted was for everybody to have a good time when they received Rufus and the camera without feeling rushed. I know in my case at least that finding the time to do this would be difficult with my schedule, I just had the benefit of starting this an had a little more time to work with. I think we all understand that sometimes work, health, kids, school and a host of other things in life can sometimes limit our time to do the things we want to. I want this to cause fun not stress.
To be certain I do not want someone to get the camera a keep it for weeks on end, I do understand when life gets in the way. The big thing in my book is did you have fun, would you do it again and would you recommend this to others? If the answer to all three is yes, then I am very happy. And I am sure Rufus didn't mind the extra day or two in the Sunshine state. Congrats on the NCAA championship, that must have shut Florida down a couple of days in and of itself. LOL
Look out OBie, Rufus is on the way.
Greg
Tyson L. Sparks 04-06-2007, 08:05 AM I agree with you Greg, it will more than likely take me a week or so to get the shots of ruffus I want. I had figured 2 weeks tops. I think that is managable don't you. I am sure I'll be done in a week or less but just in case I have planned for 2 weeks. I don't think there is any need to rush things.
I am going to Maine in Aug. I hope Ruffus gets here before then.
Thanks guys. That makes me feel much better...:)
adina 04-06-2007, 08:10 AM Well no wonder he hasn't gotten here yet! Geez Almo, I know he's having a lot of fun, but cut the guy off already!!
I'm teasing you. I loved loved loved the photos you posted.

He'll have another jam session when he makes it out to here
Greg McCary 04-06-2007, 05:05 PM Play that funky music white boy........

Dude...never shave!
I have been considering that.
manacsa 04-06-2007, 09:44 PM Great series Almo!
I just want to say thanks to all who posted comments to my pics with Ruffus. We sure had a blast, and he really helped me through a tough spot. He is one helluva good guy. Just make sure you watch him with the tequila...:p
To all of you who wonder If I have a serious bone in my photographic body, well Ruffus made sure I had some decent images to share. So here they are...

Greg McCary 04-08-2007, 03:28 AM Well done Almo. I am glad Rufus helped you out and I am sorry about your cat Georgi. I know sometimes pets can become like family members.
I didn't realize how much fun Rufus was until I mailed him off. I think you did very well.
Greg
As for Ruffus, he has been having a blast with the local flora and fauna, if you catch my drift...:wink5:
OK, Ruffus has arrived here - but does he need a bath first thing? He's not talking.
Looking forward to making time to spend with him. I've decided to scout out some areas I've never explored before. Should be interesting. And he might be going on a college visit this weekend - do you think he may be intereseted in attending after CAW is over?

As he said to me after visiting my college...
"John, my man, there is no institution of higher learning that can contain Ruffus Griffin."
Greg McCary 04-09-2007, 02:31 PM No need to send him to college he already knows it all dude. And he forgot his toothbrush here in Rome. Also watch him around the ladies, he will leave you stranded.
Greg
Greg McCary 04-09-2007, 02:49 PM Ruffus for president!
I don't think so, you think Bill had the ladies. Secretary of State maybe would be better.
Tyson L. Sparks 04-09-2007, 04:59 PM Can we put all the pictures in one thread, or am I just late for the party on this one?
Just an Idea.
OBie, any chance of a few costal pictures?
Tyson - I'm a few hours from the coast. I should get some mountain pics, though. I wish I could plan a quick trip to the coast, but it's spring, and spring around here means way too much going on with kids. Sorry. I think Speed is the one who lives on the NC coast. He needs to sign up!
Tyson L. Sparks 04-10-2007, 04:53 AM By golly gee wizzz lets get him on the list.
Tyson L. Sparks 04-16-2007, 07:53 PM Anyone seen Ruffus?
Hi everyone - sorry for being AWOL w/Ruffus. I had some major dental work last Friday and it's been a rough few days since. Ruffus has been having fun and we took a tour of Charlotte today. Look for him to post in a short while . . .
Ruffus_Griffin 04-18-2007, 03:27 PM Hey Hey Hey everybody!!! I'm baaaaack!! :D
Actually I'm in Charlotte, NC enjoying beautiful spring weather. Gonna post to my blog and then throw some more photos up here.
Ruffus_Griffin 04-18-2007, 04:29 PM OK everyone - I posted my Charlotte visit in my official Blog (http://forums.photographyreview.com/blog.php?do=showjournal&j=36). Check it out. Here are some of the pics from my visit:
We took a trip up to Appalachian State University:
http://gallery.photographyreview.com/data/photography//500/Ruffus_in_Charlotte_-_15.jpg
I took a walk with OBie's youngest daughter:

Their football team won championships 2 years in a row! Go Mountaineers!
http://gallery.photographyreview.com/data/photography//500/Ruffus_in_Charlotte_-_13.jpg
Ruffus_Griffin 04-18-2007, 05:54 PM Here I am in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

A close call with the LAW . . .
http://gallery.photographyreview.com/data/photography//500/Ruffus_in_Charlotte_-_20.jpg
I took this photo at the US National Whitewater Center! Not bad, eh?
http://gallery.photographyreview.com/data/photography//500/Ruffus_in_Charlotte_-_9.jpg
I tried to help OBie sell some real estate...
http://gallery.photographyreview.com/data/photography//500/Ruffus_in_Charlotte_-_16.jpg
I took this cool photo of one of the panther statues outside of Bank of America Stadium, where the Carolina Panthers play.
http://gallery.photographyreview.com/data/photography//500/Ruffus_in_Charlotte_-_7.jpg
And I tried to take this picture of an iris - OBie told me that she likes nature photos.
http://gallery.photographyreview.com/data/photography//500/Ruffus_in_Charlotte_-_6.jpg
Ruffus, you the man! Looks like you had fun with Obie. It'll be a while before you get here but hope I can show you as good a time.
I have to admit I can see you as being in trouble with the law more than I can see you as a real estate salesman.
Greg McCary 04-19-2007, 08:50 PM Great series of pictures OBie. Looks like you and Rufus had a ball. I like the Blue Ridge Mountain pictures. It makes me want to visit NC. I have been to Franklin before and I must say it's beautiful country. I also hope Rufus wasn't to much trouble. He can be a hand full. But his sense of humour makes up for it. He is one lovable guy. Well done.
Greg
readingr 04-20-2007, 01:09 AM Okay - where have I been and how did I miss this - any chance of putting me on the UK list or is it too late?

Roger
readingr 05-02-2007, 04:02 AM Will Rufus get to me just before July22nd? I was hoping to take him across the channel to France and the Channel Islands on my 2 week sailing vacation.
Hope he doesn't get sea sick.
Roger
Tyson L. Sparks 05-12-2007, 05:15 PM Where is Ruffus????
Greg McCary 05-12-2007, 05:17 PM He is on his way to OldTimer I think. After him, your on deck......
CLKunst 05-12-2007, 06:06 PM Could somebody set up a link to the map in Rufus' blog? I know my turn is coming up but I can't find the thread. . . .
Where is Ruffus????
Ruffus just finished his visit with us in TN. We're still trying to recover. I took Ruffus to work, where we make electronics. I asked him to be careful with the machines, but you know Ruffus...

Ruffus, get off that conveyor!!!!
http://gallery.photographyreview.com/data/photography//500/RWeb_4.jpg</center>
Well, trouble on the last night of Ruffus' visit. When I PM'ed Oldtimer to work out travel arrangements, he mentioned he'd locked his liquor cabinet. If I'd only been so wise. I thought things were quiet, and I went to find Ruffus. What I found wasn't pretty....

Looks lik he will miss the British Grand Prix :(
Maybe he'll make it for a trip to the DTM season finale at Hockenheim.
It'd be good to have him guest at a race meeting ...
Didache 05-13-2007, 07:25 AM I think it might be useful to post a revised itinerary - I know there have been a couple of additions since the official one was posted.

Greg McCary 05-13-2007, 10:03 AM How about BevB, ReadingR, and Alison, have they not joined in?
I don't think that BevB is signed on. Alison and readingr are not on this list but have since joined and are working out details of who will get and send Rufus. I didn't know where to add them. They are going to get back with me when they figure the route out.
Greg McCary 05-13-2007, 10:10 AM Well done r_w, Rufus certainly keeps you on your toes. I sent him along with a bottle of Wild Turkey myself. Maybe he will sober up before OT gets him.

Mike just PMed me. I am sure he will. Please PM him and then let me know what you and Mike come up with and I will post an updated list. Roger wants on the list too.
Didache 05-13-2007, 10:22 AM Smartwombat --> Me (Didache) --> Alison --> Roger sounds fine to me.

I was wondering that myself...

Hollis was a no contact. They never responded to r_w. PMs......
Greg McCary 05-14-2007, 01:05 PM It may help thinks along if once you recieve The Camera and Rufus, go ahead a try to contact the next member on the list and get their address. This will give the next member more time to respond. Are we still exchanging gifts? I would like to see some if we are?

Greg McCary 05-14-2007, 07:14 PM Thanks a million Frog........I edited the list again
gahspidy 05-16-2007, 05:55 AM With all the editing as more people sign on en route, it would be very difficult to keep updating the maps by exact order. So, the overview map still seems to give a good idea of the route the camera and Rufus will be traveling.
I have positioned Greg as "Missile Defense" to prevent any 'rogue nations from spoilng our event.
walterick 05-16-2007, 07:17 AM Have we talked about voting on our favorite pics at the end? There are already some great ones in here.

Ruffus_Griffin 05-17-2007, 07:42 AM Hey Gang... Just wanted you to know I was in the Bluegrass state with Old Timer. We're getting out with our cameras this weekend and he says we may even get in some partytime. Check out my blog for details.
Ruffus_Griffin 05-21-2007, 05:42 PM Well I'm closing out my time in the Bluegrass with OT and Joy. I'm having a hard time picking five pictures to sum up my stay here but here goes. OT was a little sceptical about my Canon A430 when I first got there but I think I made a believer out of him. If I can pull my self out of bed in the morning I'll start my trip to the D.C. area. It's going to be a big change from the country life, but I'm ready for some city life. See you dudes back here on PR when I get there. Don't forget to check out my blog too I'll have a few more over there.
Tyson L. Sparks 05-21-2007, 06:05 PM Very nice Ruffus, very nice. You are getting great with that PS camera. I bet small town life grows on you, I know I live in a one horse town. DC Metro area will be a big change but also there is an unlimited amount of photo opportunities there. I look forward to your next post.
Great job, be safe, travel light.
Greg McCary 05-21-2007, 06:20 PM Wow, That's some nice shooting. OT must have given you a couple of lessons. You will be a pro before you ever get back to Rome. Don't let them UPS guys knock you around and make sure OT gets the good bubble wrap. I can't wait to see you in DC.
Greg
Rufus, my man! Thanks for sharing some of the good times you had in the blue grass country.
That fiscal court was mighty proud of their bridge, eh. Hung that nice big brown sign on it and all.
Rufus - these are beautiful photos......great color....nice and sharp.
OT really has some magic in that photographic eye - and that trigger finger......guess it's "catchy"

Liz it's is so great to have you back and participating again. You need to have Greg add you to the list of visits that Ruffus is going to make. He needs a good steadying influence after hanging with me for a few days.

Ruffus_Griffin 05-25-2007, 07:52 AM What's up? Just wanted to give you all the head's up I'm in D.C. and I've posted my first blog from here. It's Memorial Day Weekend people - let's party!
CLKunst 06-01-2007, 06:07 AM Ruffus is out the door today and on to Tyson in Ohio. This was a really fun project Greg! I had no idea it would be so liberating to work with a model who always smiles, never squints in the sun or has bouts of self-consious panic in front of the camera. I posted his last blog a few days ago but got swept away with editing all the stuff we shot together this weekend and didn't get him out yesterday. My entire family had fun with this and my little girls are sad to see him go. Thanks for the chance to play along.
Best,

I know where you are coming from. I missed Rufus after I mailed him off.LOL I had a blast myself. I didn't realize how much fun I was having until I sent Rufus on his way. I can't wait to see your pictures. They seem to get better with every stop. Thanks much for being a part of it all.

Ruffus_Griffin 06-06-2007, 06:30 AM Things here in Ohio are kind of strange, the sleeping arrangements are well.....Questionable at best. Tyson tells me after we get some sleep, we'll do some shooting. How can I sleep like this. Tell me something, one of these "cats" looks out of place to me?

Greg McCary 08-01-2007, 01:45 AM Last I heard Rufus is on his way to Chicago. I am not sure if he is there yet. Maybe we should start another camera at the bottom of the list and work one both ways. We need to speed things up a bit though. Where are you Rufus?????????
Greg
adina 08-01-2007, 05:04 AM I'd pass on the second camera...I've enjoyed watching this one go, as is. Even if it does slow down, still fun.
Didache 08-04-2007, 02:31 AM Being serious here - part of the fun of this whole project has been in following Rufus around. A certain amount of momentum is necessary or people will forget or lose interest in it. I appreciate that nobody wants to "rush" it, but when whole weeks pass with no news at all, it tends to fade from the memory.
Is he lost? Is it just that the person he has been sent to is on vacation or away on business? Has Rufus and the camera just been shoved into a drawer and forgotten?
Presumably it is pretty easy to trace Rufus' last movements, who he should be with, etc, and an email or two sent out to find out what is happening?
Cheers
Mike
Greg McCary 08-04-2007, 03:22 AM Mike, I do think things are slowing down. I have PMed the members trying to find Rufus. As best I can tell MonkeyWrench still has him and is suppose to me mailing him to Sushigaijin is Chicago. Sushigaijin will contact me when Rufus arrives in the windy city.
I will PM MonkeyWrench and Sushigaijin both this morning and try and find him.
Greg
SmartWombat 08-04-2007, 03:36 AM Mike, I do think things are slowing down.
And here I was thinking that only a week here before passing on wouldn't be long enough.
I was hoping he'd help dismantle the subframe on the cabrio and fit the new suspension ...
gahspidy 08-05-2007, 07:13 AM I'd pass on the second camera...I've enjoyed watching this one go, as is. Even if it does slow down, still fun.
I agree, a second camera sort of takes the fun out of the idea of a single camera traveling around the world capturing scenes from every participant involved. For me, the concept of the camera capturing pieces of time and scenes from each membrs locations it what I find appealing. I agree with Mike that it is getting slow and that can begin to fade the enthusiasm for this.
Perhaps when this comes to a close, it will be impressive to recount not only the geographical distances the camera traveled but also the vast amount of time and space :D
Greg McCary 08-05-2007, 07:23 AM Gary, MonkeyWrench still has the camera. I will do what I can to speed things up. One thing I can do is PM the next on the list so they can PM the one with the camera. And give them their address well in advance. I think part of the slow down is the time it takes to contact the next member. Sushigaijin has PMed MonkeyWrench and is waiting for Rufus to arrive.
Greg
Ruffus_Griffin 08-12-2007, 08:54 AM Hi everybody. I'm back. Some how I have found myself back in Rome with Greg. But man am I beat. Greg is going to give me a little R&R before I head out again but certainly I won't lay around to long. I will be heading out to Chicago next. I am glad you all have been so patient. I slept in a bit this morning.

Ruffus_Griffin 08-22-2007, 10:46 AM hey HEY!
I finally made it to Chicago, where it has been raining all-day, every day for the last week. The family I'm staying with here is very hospitable, they've plied me with brown ever since I arrived. Can't complain about that!

I_Fly 08-22-2007, 04:05 PM The family I'm staying with here is very hospitable, they've plied me with brown ever since I arrived. Can't complain about that!
Hey Ruffus,
Don't drink so much of that you can't find your way to me down here in Western Illinois! I'm looking forward to meeting you soon. Hope you get some really great photos up there in the windy city.
BTW, I've got some brown (stout) down here for ya also!
Greg McCary 08-22-2007, 05:24 PM How about sending some of that rain down here to Georgia Ruffus. It was 106 degrees today. I hope you enjoy Chicago and it looks like you are in for some fine dining. I am looking forward to your pictures.
Greg
Sushigaijin 08-26-2007, 06:51 PM Well, it looks like we've finally beaten the rain in Chicago - it ended with a storm boasting 70 mph winds, knocked out power for three days, and made the neighborhood look like a bomb had gone off. I didn't have time to get any good storm/aftermath shots (shame, but I had to keep my place of employment under control and shots like that aren't really my style.) but I finally got to playing around with the CATW camera today. It was extremely difficult giving up manual control of the settings, and I was very frustrated with the autofocus zoning - just give me a reticle please, this multi-zone stuff is for the birds! I guess I should probably read the instructions :mad2:
anyway, here's a few from the CATW. I find that this A430 is a bit undercontrasty, and needs pretty aggressive sharpening for my taste. All these got a bit of photoshop, some more than others. none more than 5 minutes.

Greg
I_Fly 09-07-2007, 10:30 AM Hey everyone,
Ruffus made it to my place in Western Illinois. He's already making friends with my 3 dogs and raiding my fridge. Mumbling about a hot, bouncy ride from Chicago and needing something refreshing to drink. As soon as he's recovered I'm sure we'll head out and get lots more photos and I'll let him use my computer to post to his blog and to viewfinder.
Here he is playing with Bucko.
http://www.troybates.com/pr_temp/rufus01.jpg
And here he is getting ready to enjoy a nice cool beverage.
http://www.troybates.com/pr_temp/rufus02.jpg
Greg McCary 09-07-2007, 06:10 PM I am glad to see you made it safe and sound to I Fly's. I hope he can keep you out of trouble. What have you guys got planned?
Tyson L. Sparks 09-07-2007, 07:17 PM I can't wait to see some new stuff from Ruffus, He has slowed up a bit.
I_Fly 09-08-2007, 12:57 PM Well Ruffus and I have had a busy weekend so far. He helped me finish painting a closet that I've redone, we went to a balloon rally, a carshow and a Stearman Fly-in. We're going to go to the night glow tonight and I'm not sure what we're going to do tomorrow. Depends on if I can keep him out of the fridge and away from the refreshments! ;)
Here are a few pics from our time together so far. I'll let him on to post on his blog a little later.
Here's the look on his face when I told him he was going to have to help me paint the closet if he wanted any more refreshments.
http://www.troybates.com/pr_temp/ruffus03.jpg
Here he is playing around while I was trying to get some shots of the mass ascension.

Here's a shot of Ruffus and I standing under a C-130 at the Galesburg airport where the National Stearman Fly-in is going on this weekend.
http://www.troybates.com/pr_temp/ruffus10.jpg
Here he is jumping into the picture again. Who knew he could jump so high?
http://www.troybates.com/pr_temp/ruffus12.jpg
Hopefully I'll have more later this weekend. Ruffus should be posting a message and on his blog a little later.
Ruffus_Griffin 09-08-2007, 01:10 PM Wasssup everyone? Just thought you might like an update from me. I'm here in sunny Macomb, Illinois hanging with my bud Troy aka I_fly. We've been having a blast, except for the dirty trick of making me help paint to "earn" my refreshments.
Even after that I still hung out with him and his family as they went to the mass ascension of balloons at the Macomb Balloon Rally then to the local Park N Cruise on the square. We got up early this morning and went to Galesburg, Illinois, just up the road and checked out all the Stearmans and some other cool airplanes. I think I could be a pretty good pilot if I could get my hair in the cockpit!
We're planning on going to the night glow tonight and then have some nice cold refreshments and maybe just relax tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.
Someone needs to make sure Anotherview is ready for my visit. I should be heading his way pretty quick and I'm going to be thirsty!!
Make sure you check out my blog. I'm planning on posting to it tonight sometime. Maybe while having a nice cool....drink. Lemonade...yeah that's what I'll call it. Maybe Troy won't notice it's the wrong color. Hehe.
Here I am 'splainin' to Troy the proper way to pour paint into the pan and roll the paint on the wall.
http://www.troybates.com/pr_temp/ruffus04.jpg
Here I am helping him get a great shot of the balloons!
http://www.troybates.com/pr_temp/ruffus05.jpg
Don't tell Troy but I took his boy, Gus, under my wing. He's a cool young dude! Likes airplanes, balloons and firetrucks. We've had a great time hangin' together. He's way more fun than his dad!
http://www.troybates.com/pr_temp/ruffus15.jpg
Check back tomorrow. If Troy will let me on his computer I'll post again!
Greg McCary 09-08-2007, 07:43 PM Looks like great weather and a lot of fun. I wish I could ride on of those ballons Ruffus. Troy has really rolled out the red carpet for you.
Good to see you're still having fun on your travels, Ruf.
Put vodka in that lemonade and the color won't change.
Tyson L. Sparks 09-09-2007, 06:06 AM Sweet shots!
Tyson L. Sparks 09-17-2007, 04:28 PM So where is Ruffus now? The last US spot, someone better take him a passport shot!
Ruffus_Griffin 09-23-2007, 05:31 PM Yo everyone,
Here are a few more shots taken by that cat, Troy aka I_Fly. He got a new job while I was visiting him. He's now working at Western Illinois University so he took me out there to show me some sights. Check 'em out:
Sherman Hall, where he works...

Another shot of Sherman Hall:

http://www.troybates.com/pr_temp/ruffus24.jpg
And if Troy tells you I drink too much don't believe him! I ain't sure how this happened. I think someone slipped something into one of my drinks!!

I_Fly 09-23-2007, 05:36 PM Hi everyone one. Just wanted to let you know that Ruffus is on his way to Another View's place. We had a great time hanging out together, you just need to keep an eye on your fridge! :)
Here are some more shots of our last day together:

Greg McCary 09-24-2007, 04:32 PM I can't stop laughing Rufus. I am glad you guys are having a good time. Congrats on the new job Troy.
Tyson L. Sparks 09-24-2007, 04:48 PM Looking good guys, RUffus is starting to get around. Only 5 beers put him under, what a light weight!
I_Fly 09-24-2007, 06:02 PM Thanks Greg. Ruffus was a blast to have around. I didn't get to show him as many sights as I'd wanted to because of the new job but... ya do what ya gotta do. He managed to entertain himself and not get in trouble with the law (or the ladies). He played with my son and my dogs and he'd be welcome to come back and visit. He'll just have to bring me some refreshments! ;)
I'm looking forward to seeing his further adventures as he travels around the world.
I_Fly 09-24-2007, 06:06 PM Yeah, you'd think he could handle his beer a little better than that. He does have a discerning palate though. He drank the good stuff and left the...other beer.
He'd probably travel a little faster if he didn't spend so much time recovering!
jorgemonkey 09-24-2007, 07:29 PM Looks like you're having fun out there Rufus.
Is there an updated schedule you can post for us so we know who the next few people you're going to visit is?
Greg McCary 09-24-2007, 07:53 PM Here's the list from where he is heading next. He is getting close to crossing the big pond.

Didache 09-24-2007, 11:14 PM Alison .. from memory, Roger follows Paul and you follow me. I think you and Roger came into it after the first route had been drafted.
Cheers

LOL!! It may be the camera becomes a classic at that point . . .and Rufus gets a long white beard:D
gahspidy 10-06-2007, 08:49 AM No hurry Steve. Take your time.
LOL. . . sorry, but that in itself just had me laughing.
linbhunt 10-07-2007, 03:24 PM Sorry for the long time between postings but here is my photos with the camera, however, they aren't from Rome, but rather Massachusetts and Vermont.
Z
I'm agree with you !
another view 10-09-2007, 04:20 PM About time, I know... Been busy around here so here are a few quick shots. Having lunch at the state park right near the office, driving thru the park (gotta have a little autotography in this thread!), back at the office, and one of the furry kids who is happy it has gotten a little cooler outside. Tomorrow off to Mike!
I_Fly 10-10-2007, 07:45 AM Nice series Steve! I'm looking forward to seeing more. Don't let Ruffus get you into trouble! :)
Good to see you Ruffus.
I'm wondering why my name has been taken off the list though.

Sushigaijin 10-16-2007, 07:03 PM As long as we are waiting for replies, I think I'll post the last few shots from Ruffus' stay with me.
Once he got settled in, I showed him my pets. He protested at first.
http://gallery.photographyreview.com/data/photography//500/catw_8.jpg
But they had a good hug and wrung out their differences.
http://gallery.photographyreview.com/data/photography//500/catw_9.jpg
I tried to introduce him to my monitor lizard, but he seemed a bit apprehensive.
http://gallery.photographyreview.com/data/photography//500/catw_11.jpg
In fact, it seemed to me like he was in a hurry to leave, or something! It would almost have seemed rude, except that I know how he can be sometimes.
http://gallery.photographyreview.com/data/photography//500/catw_7.jpg
And that was the last I saw of him.
mjs1973 10-17-2007, 03:26 AM Thanks for keeping the post alive Erik. I'm hoping to get some pics up tonight or tomorrow. Things have been pretty crazy, and will be till after this weekend...
I_Fly 10-17-2007, 05:17 AM Well, I can see why he might be upset, me not being a fan of snakes. The expression says it all! lol
He didn't mention he liked bikes while he was with me. Probably cause he was too busy raiding the fridge, trying to find some refreshment beverage.
Keep an eye on him Michael, he can get wild.
Ruffus_Griffin 10-17-2007, 05:18 PM Check me out. If you want to know what this thing on my head is, go check out my blog (http://forums.photographyreview.com/blog.php?do=showentry&e=345)!

Ruffus_Griffin 10-24-2007, 05:00 PM Hey everyone. I'm getting ready to head over to see Adina!!! Be sure to check out my latest blog entry.
http://forums.photographyreview.com/blog.php?do=showjournal&j=36#e357
I hope Adina and the family are ready for me!!
http://gallery.photographyreview.com/data/photography//500/IMG_0301.jpg
Tyson L. Sparks 10-29-2007, 05:19 PM Great looking blog Ruffus, this keeps getting better and better. Keep it up!
Greg McCary 10-29-2007, 05:34 PM I agree, Tyson, Nice addition to the blog. I love the pictures. It gets better with every stop. Looks like you could use a little Rogain there Rufus, maybe Adina has a permenant marker...
adina 10-30-2007, 04:35 AM Rufus has landed....
My youngest is home sick today, and I got my butt kicked last night, I can hardly walk...
Should be out and about tomorrow!
adina 10-30-2007, 12:14 PM Rufus got here looking a little ragged and tired, understandable after all his travels. Took a nap with my baby who's home today, and then went to have his hair done. We decided on highlights. Since it's getting colder and darker, we thought they might warm up his skin tones....on the way back, he couldn't resist the pile of leaves in the yard.
Glad Rufus arrived safely if a bit bedraggled. Hope he can help you and yours get through a not so good day, Adina. Can tell your daughter feels crummy!
Old Timer 11-01-2007, 05:46 AM Don't let Rufus lead the girls astray. He is not always the best influence although he does have a very big heart and usually means well.
adina 11-03-2007, 09:17 AM Okay we are all healthy, and will be showing Rufus a good time this week. Should have him back in his box by Saturday.
Jimmy B 11-06-2007, 05:24 PM Hey Frog I will save the postage and make a trip south to hand rufus over to you when he gets sick of Lynnwood Wa.
Looking forward to some time with Rufus!
Jimmy B
That sounds good, Jimmy. I do think you'll spend more on gas than you would have on postage but it would be good to meet you.
We'll worry about it sometime next year.
Ruffus_Griffin 11-08-2007, 12:42 PM oh yeah.
So after we all got over whatever virus was being passed around, we got down to business. Adina's been pretty busy, and hasn't had a whole lot of time to show me around, but she did introduce me to the neighbors, and I've managed to keep myself occupied. I even convinced a couple of them to pose for me. You know, for art's sake. Well, Art's a pretty lucky guy....
:cornut:
They are making me go to TaeKwonDo tonight, I don't know what the deal with that is, I mean, you can't improve on perfection. Adina said something about exercise, but hey, the ladies aren't complaining.
First photo is me and the girls, then a few of the girls, and then, well, things got a little crazy, and this is a pg forum. Use your imagination.
Peace out.
G.

I knew you'd come through Ruffus....  :D :p
Greg McCary 11-08-2007, 01:09 PM I agree. This is great Ruffus. You may never make the next stop.LOL
jorgemonkey 11-08-2007, 01:19 PM If this is a PG forum, then why are you posting topless photos on the internet? :)
So when is the video coming out? :)
mjs1973 11-08-2007, 01:43 PM You da man Ruffus!
adina 11-08-2007, 01:45 PM I think if you don't see nipples it's okay. And he did post a warning.
I mean, come on, we've seen more of Speed's skin than this.
villenadecorte 11-08-2007, 02:08 PM Adina this is fantastic....love it. Reminds me of the Barbie scene in Toy Story!!!
(b: "Hi I'm tour guide Baribie..." p: "Im a married spud, Im a married spud...")
SmartWombat 11-08-2007, 02:29 PM Boy does Ruffus have a surprise coming when he gets here.
The girls are getting ready ...
I_Fly 11-08-2007, 08:43 PM I think if you don't see nipples it's okay. And he did post a warning.
I mean, come on, we've seen more of Speed's skin than this.
Now that's funny!!!!
I_Fly 11-08-2007, 08:44 PM Ruffus you 'ol horn dog. I'm glad you didn't engage in any of that around my boy. We would have had more words than we did after you drank all my beer! :)
Ruffus_Griffin 11-11-2007, 05:36 PM Well, as I type this I'm packing my bags...I'll be out of here first thing in the a.m. Was going to head out Saturday, but Adina mentioned something about pizza and Packers, so I hung for one more day. Plus I could hardly move after TaeKwonDo, so I needed a day to hang low.
Rounding out my trip...I did try to hook up with the ladies I met earlier, but they aren't returning my calls....
Ruffus_Griffin 11-11-2007, 05:42 PM Could there be any better way to spend the day. Hung at Adina's parent's for the day, I think they were a little suprised when they saw how I can pack it in...but hey, when you're hungry, you're hungry.
On my way to Brent's in the morning, I'm outta here.
G.
Ruffus_Griffin 11-11-2007, 05:45 PM oh yeah...
they gave me a white belt at TKD, I'm one bad mf. Don't mess with me.
mjs1973 11-12-2007, 03:44 AM I love the headband Ruffus. You know girls only want boyfriends who have great skills... like nunchuk skills...
Alison 11-12-2007, 04:45 AM LMAO!!! Adina!!! That is hilarious with the Barbies!!! I am seriously creased up here!
My 18 year old daughter collects Barbies. Is he gonna party here or what?!!! LOL
Tyson L. Sparks 11-12-2007, 08:36 AM Great looking shots Ruffus, keep it up.
SmartWombat 11-12-2007, 12:09 PM She's not alone, Angie has a good collection of early Sindy, Pepper, Midge, a few Barbie - he's going to have a blast here !
Though I don't think many of the photos will be fit to share here ...
Ruffus you had me laughing out loud!! Too funny with the Barbies!
Can't wait for the "Ruffus Gone Wild" vid!
Your traveling box must be growing with lugging that cheesehead all around.
I_Fly 11-27-2007, 10:56 AM Ruffus,
Where are you? You're not in jail are you? Or running from angry fathers?
adina 11-28-2007, 04:58 AM Ruffus has touched down at Brent's (livin4lax).
livin4lax09 12-04-2007, 06:20 PM ruffus is with me, but he has forgotten his password to his account. is it written anywhere in his home (aka box)?
mjs1973 12-05-2007, 04:05 AM ruffus is with me, but he has forgotten his password to his account. is it written anywhere in his home (aka box)?
It was written down on a piece of paper. I'll PM it to you.
adina 12-05-2007, 05:03 AM Sorry, I might have missed that when I transfered him to a bigger box. My bad.
Ruffus_Griffin 12-05-2007, 10:32 PM hey folks! It's been a while since I've had the chance to get on the net, but I am here. Not for too long of course, because I have to get my beauty sleep, but long enough to let everyone know that I am alive and kicking. The trip to NH was great, thank you adina, for supplying me with such a large box and a broad to keep me interested on the way over. Time with Brent has been a little boring, just because of all of his darn work. The first day I got here we had fun for a while, but then he got right to work, and seems like he has been doing it ever since!
I certainly have some fun photos for you, and I have tried making friends with his robot vacuum cleaner, but it's not too friendly. More to come. Brent insisted I post one of his portraits of me though. He was trying out lenses for some macro shots and I convinced him to snap one of me. Should have freshened up first though....
http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/9399/b70e5342yw5.jpg
I will be back a little later, don't worry!
JBPhoto 12-10-2007, 05:12 AM Hey Ruffus,
Great to hear from you, glad you made it safely to New Hampshire . You know, Connecticut isn't too far from there, so I'll extend an invitation to come visit. My door is always open, you're welcome anytime if you can't make it this time. We'll have a blast, I can introduce you to some of my lady friends too, and some famous athletes. It'll be awesome, lemme know.
Jeff
livin4lax09 12-16-2007, 03:45 PM hey everyone, ruffus is still with me, safe and sound in our crazy ice storm we are having here. He'll be posting later on tonight, right after he helps me with some headshots that need to be edited. For right now, here's just a few shots of UNH, in my final photography critique. Hope you enjoy seeing a little peek of what my life at the U is like!
oh, and if you're wondering what the hanging things are, they are 360 degree panoramas that you can get inside of.
Greg McCary 12-16-2007, 04:58 PM Thanks for taking part Brent. I hope you had a good time. I know you are very busy. When will you finish up college?
livin4lax09 12-16-2007, 07:32 PM I am in the final stretch of the semester right now, I have a final tuesday and friday, then I am done for winter break, and at the end of january I fly out to New Zealand where I will be attending Massey University in Wellington until the end of june. Then I'm traveling for a couple weeks with my sister over there, and then I'll be back. I know you didn't ask for all of that, but hey, in case people are wondering...
Ruffus_Griffin 12-16-2007, 09:53 PM hi all, I promised I would come back, didn't I? Things have been pretty low key here, but it's alright because brent's been pretty busy. I try to help him out as much as possible, and he likes the help with the photos. here is one that we worked on together. he obviously wasn't as happy as I was with the progress.
http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/5869/img0378bu3.jpg
I got here a couple weeks ago at this point, I guess. Of course, the first thing I did when I got out of the box was take a ride on roomba. We zipped around for a while before I got dizzy from all of it's spinning. But man, it sure was fun!
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/4227/img0375rk5.jpg
I even convinced Brent to take me to one of his friend's cyclocross races, because I had heard they are pretty crazy. Here I am with all of brent's gear, ready to go! unfortunately he forgot me! But he probably had enough stuff to carry anyways...
http://img70.imageshack.us/img70/9554/img0380ud6.jpg
I was here for the first real snow as well! Brent was hoping that school would get canceled, but it didn't. UNH was one of the only schools in NH that was still open!
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/1327/img0382tl7.jpg
Brent already showed you the photos of his final critique, which I thought were pretty cool. there are some pretty good photographers in his class!
The other night I went outside for the first time, and I would like to personally blame whoever sent me to this tundra. It's freezing up here! Before we left his apartment, he tied some string (shh, it's really dental floss, so now I smell all nice and minty!) to my arm. I couldn't understand what it was for...
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/2112/img0413li0.jpg
But I soon found out, after I jumped in the snowbank for the first time Brent was able to pull me right out with no real problem! Man, that snow is COLD!
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/1856/img0419kb5.jpg
Ahhhh, face full of snow!!!!!!
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/9002/img0418ge0.jpg
I hung out with his best friend for a while on our walk to the dining hall in the cold. he's a pretty cool kid!
http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/7300/img0417eq2.jpg
then on the way back, we met up with another one of brent's friends. he's one of the bus drivers at UNH, so of course I had to introduce myself...
http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/2418/img0420uo1.jpg
then when I got back to the apartment, his roommate's girlfriend was there! so of course, once again, I had to introduce myself! man, I'm making so many friends here!
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/8915/img0421rt2.jpg
but unfortunately, brent's going to be sending me out soon. He leaves his apartment within the next week, so he's probably gonna get me sent out before then. I'm looking forward to seeing the next person on the list, and I sure hope it's warmer there!
Old Timer 12-17-2007, 05:25 AM Looks like Brent is showing you the real side of college life. We're all lucky that Brent doesn't go to one of those big time party schools. We would never get you back on the road if you got to partying with those college kids.
I_Fly 12-17-2007, 05:26 AM I am in the final stretch of the semester right now, I have a final tuesday and friday, then I am done for winter break, and at the end of january I fly out to New Zealand where I will be attending Massey University in Wellington until the end of june. Then I'm traveling for a couple weeks with my sister over there, and then I'll be back. I know you didn't ask for all of that, but hey, in case people are wondering...
Wow, sounds like you've got a busy half year at least. Hope you did well on your finals and wishing you well on your studies in New Zealand!
I_Fly 12-17-2007, 05:32 AM Ruffus,
It's good to hear from you again, my friend. I hope you didn't lead Brent or any of his friends astray! It looks like you made a bunch of friends and had a good time. I really enjoy your updates and always look forward to seeing photos of your adventures and the people you meet!
livin4lax09 12-17-2007, 08:34 AM Looks like Brent is showing you the real side of college life. We're all lucky that Brent doesn't go to one of those big time party schools. We would never get you back on the road if you got to partying with those college kids.
haha, unh was actually rated #7 on the national party schools list from the princeton review.
adina 12-17-2007, 12:02 PM LOVE THE SNOW ONES!
I was looking at that string and thinking "what the heck?" and then I scrolled down and saw him face first in the snow. Love it!

Tyson L. Sparks 01-17-2008, 05:43 PM Sure is taking Ruffus a long time to get around the world. It's going to take two years for him to get back home, mit as well start sending him back around. Too bad you couldn't send him to me in Iraq. I might still be there by the end of his tour.
Greg McCary 01-17-2008, 06:40 PM If you are still there I will send him your way........
