Made the ringlight myself.
Here are some examples.

A Self Portait

The flowers seem to be out of foucs.
The portrait seems good except for the reflection of the ring light in his eyes. Should be able to edit that out.
Now you've gone and given me another idea to think about doing.

I have heard a lot about ring lights lately on a photography lighting podcast I listen to. I don't know anything about studio lights, but from what they talk about, and some of the images I have seen, the ring light seems pretty cool.
I would agree with Frog on the catchlight. They look odd. I think it would be pretty easy to make a difuser or something to go over your light to make it look more "solid" as a catchlight.

There's been lots of talk on this recently in some photo organizations. The circular catchlight in some cases are actually desired. It tends to look better in moody shots or fashion though. I think in this case, if the lights were closer, the catchlight would circle the pupil, and make it much more effective (more difficult with self). If you get the chance, try to place the light in that manner, and see how you like it then. I think as far as the lighting goes, these look nice.

I've always like the highlights in the eyes ringlights give. I've thought about getting one just for this reason actually. Good self portrait.
