Fellas, I sought your advice a while back and ended up with the D50, rather than the D40 etc. I bought it with the "stock" kit lens. I am AMAZED! Are my eyes just old and tired or does that thing put out incredible images for its cost? I used to love me f.2 35mm and who wouldn't love the 1.4 and the marvelous 105mm, but I gotta tell ya I am really impressed with this "cheapo" kit lens. For now, its all I need.

The 18-55 that came with my D50 is great. It's a little 'cheap' feeling but most of the time the images are outstanding.

Lava Lamp swears the D50 is better than the D70. Apparently, it's a great camera for the price. And most of the folks who've gotten the "kit" lens have liked it as well.

I'm glad you like your new setup. Be sure to share some of those images with us!

A friend of mine bought a D50 with kit lens about a year ago. I've been looking at the stuff she's been doing since and it's excellent. The D50 has a nice balance of saturation and contrast - better than the original D70, which tended to under-expose.
