Hey all, I recently went to a local chain camera store and left there more confused than ever.I was looking into some of the VR lenses for my new D80. the camera guy found a VR 70-300 but it wasnt DX, it was made for 35mm.Is there a big difference? He made me think that there was not much difference at all. The cost was much more reasonable (500-600$).
I would appreciate any help, Thanks in advance John

No problem using non-DX lenses on a DSLR. I only have one (non-Nikon) DX style lens. It's a wide zoom, and you'll find most of the DX lenses in the shorter focal lengths. DX means that the lens won't project an image big enough to cover a 35mm negative - but will cover a DSLR sensor since it's smaller.

The 70-300 VR is one of Nikon's newest lenses and is a fantastic lens for the price and intended market. DX lenses are worth it IMHO in the areas where they have unique features, but on the tele end they aren't.
