There's one in every crowd!

;-)

Yes, Ryan is my first grandchild. And for the record, my son was too young to get married, I'm too young to be a grandfather, and Dawn is WAY too young to be a grandmother!

Thank you for the comments my friend!

What a cutie!

a side note...if you select Levels in PS, bring the black point closer to the middle, your background will go solid black

What kind of camera did you use? :D :p

I think that's the most insulting question you can ask a photographer.

Great photo. Really wonderful. I love it. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

the skin looks a little too saturated, as baby's skin is hard to get to look normal. Try to boost the levels a bit with the skin on a different layer. It's a nice portrait, it just needs a little bit of PS work, because the reds are bleeding as well. I hope you have the original one still.

But non-critique wise, cute kid! I'm sure whoever got the portrait is very happy, and you gotta love those little santa outfits.

A sleeping puppy, as I have learned this past week. Or should I say me, when the puppy is sleeping.

Sometimes babies have skin that looks more saturated, but it is normal. I've noticed with smaller, newer babies, they do tend to have richer skin sometimes. Also, the reds aren't bleeding, that's the way velvet textured fabric photographs. I had photographed 9 month old triplets in time for Christmas and they were all wearing green velvet dresses. Pain in the butt.

PS....Hey Speed....I hope this one photo isn't all we get to see. That's one cute babe.

ouch. remind me to never shoot velvet then.

I just commented on the skin because the hands look a different shade than the face.

"I think that's the most insulting question you can ask a photographer."

I agree!!!

As if the camera made the photo, background, composition, etc.

The photographer just pointed the camera and it did the work!

Yep it ranks right there with my all time favorite, "Wow that's a great picture you must have a really good camera!"

I'm a little bit late, but congratulations Bob!! You are now a member of the prestigious grandpa/grandma club hehehe. You may feel you're too young, but it's still cool to be a grandpa!! I was in my early 40's when my first grandson was born.

I would be so thrilled to be able to capture a sweet photograph like this. Kinda ala Ann Geddes. :)

Thank you Adina!

As for the levels, I looked at it, and the histogram curve goes from one end of the scale to the other. I guess I could play with it some...

In the meantime, Dawn loves it, and has already had 4X6's, 5X7's, and 8X10's made of it to give to family.

I get that all the time at my daughter's soccer games. Everyone makes comments that if they had an expensive camera like mine, then they could get the great shots. Never mind the five years I've been shooting sports, the hundreds of rolls of film I've shot, the countless hours spent reading about photography (and the hundreds of dollars spent on books and magazines). It's tempting to one day hand one of them my camera and say "Have at it." I could burn them a CD and they could see for themselves.

On the other hand, why bother...

Let them think it's the camera.

Oh yeah, Grandma (my wife) was very happy with them. As were mom and dad (my son), and great-grandma (my mother).

I must admit, I do very minor PS corrections. I have PS Elements 2.0 (which does a lot more than I'm capable of), but I haven't spent the time necessary to really get the hang of the more advanced stuff. One of these days, I do intend to take a PS workshop though. With digital, some post-processing is usually enevitable.

This image was just resized for PR without any adjustments.

Thanks for the comments Brent. I do appreciate them.

"What kind of camera did you use?

Aw, come on guys. I take it as a compliment. It says to me, "I like that image so much I want to run out and buy the camera you used so I can take it too!"

You get the "you're a great photographer!" comments after they see your collected works and the high level of good work consistently coming out of you.

My two cents, anyway

Good point, my friend. Some people (maybe, hopefully, most) may be thinking that way. It would be nice to think so. It's the ones that give the camera ALL the credit that get to you. It doesn't bother me - anymore ;-), but in the back of my mind, I'm thinking they are showing their photographic ignorance - they obviously do not know that it takes more than a "nice" or "expensive" camera to make nice photo's.

Case in point - Charles Hess has produced more outstanding glamour shots with his old fully manual Nikon FM2n than I have with my N80, Coolpix 5700, F5, and D200 - combined! (My glamour photography is getting better though, and Charles was my motivation!)Yet I get comments all the time about how nice my "expensive" camera is. Then again, maybe I should be shooting more with my K1000!!!!! Show everyone that it's the photographer and not the gear...

"You get the "you're a great photographer!" comments after they see your collected works and the high level of good work consistently coming out of you."

VERY TRUE my friend! Consistently producing good work does get noticed.

"My two cents, anyway"

Two cents - right. Wisdom is priceless my friend! Thank you for adding your pearls of wisdom.

And that right there is the measure of a great photo.
