From the Galapagos Islands off the coast of Ecuador are the hawk and the male Frigate Bird, with its red pouch used to attract females.

All Galapagos wildlife is comfortable being around humans. Our naturalist/guide did say it was the Galapagos Hawk. But never having been so close to any hawk before, I tend to skip the full description, being clueless as to how hawks differ. The pictures speak far louder than my poor efforts to get the names of Galapagos birds and animals fully correct.

paulnj,
Sticking with birds I photographed in the Galapagos, here are three that seemed relatively easy to identify, such as the Flamingo. The famous Blue-Footed Booby is no challenge either. These boobies are a feature of my video, including shots of chicks and eggs. The Masked Booby looks just like the Lone Ranger.

what guy doesn't like boobies :D
That flamingo looks like the eurasian subspecies (Phoenicopterus ruber roseus) which is a subspecies closely related to greater flamingo(Phoenicopterus ruber) I do believe.
The americas have 3 species of flamingo ( lesser, greater and chilean)

So you do scientific names and everything, like biologists I used to work with. I stick to the common names, commoner the better.
We can move on to penguins from the Antarctic Peninsula, where I have good photos of four species, some of which appear in "Happy Feet".
As a co-moderator, perhaps you could also let me know if, when and where links are allowed to my website pages, for example the Ecuador stills gallery, plus a free, non-commercial streaming video, "Gringo in the Galapagos", which both feature wildlife. My real hobby is video.
