A question in relation to an upgrade for the Powershot S3-IS; anyone tell me about the release cycle, and whether an upgrade is likely for that about Feb 2007 ?- 12 months after the S3 released; thanks for comments, butchy. :)

I heard about April 2007. That's according to speculations on the Canon forums at dpreview. Earlier tonite on another photography site someone said Canon releases a new model of an older model about every 18 months. So....

If there's a new one, it will most likely be announced at the 2007 PMA tradeshow. That takes place in the beginning of March. But let me ask you a question - what more are you looking for? Compact digital cameras, including the S3 IS, are all very good now. If Canon makes a replacement it will probably have more resolution. But who cares? Isn't it better to have a new camera that you can shoot with now? And if you really do feel like you need something better, maybe you should be looking at entry-level digital SLRs. You can get really good deals on the Digital Rebel XT now and it will absolutely make better photos.
