View Full Version : Closer encounters!
Took myself off down to the lakes again to see if my little Kingfisher friend was about and he didnt let me down, but i am working now to get nearer to him, so now i have found where his favourite perch is il be setting myself up in the reeds nearby.
They are'nt the best flight shots but he is a fast little bullet!
SmartWombat 11-15-2006, 01:21 PM I was going to say #2 was great until I saw #3 !
Buth are stunning, I don't want to know how many you threw away to get those all that matters is the results.
You need to get closer, or get a longer lens, but another like #3 closer will be a winner.
Oh if you want a real challenge, shoot it portrait format and get the bird and reflection :)
paulnj 11-15-2006, 02:58 PM By far the first is the best to me. You caught it with a meal!!!!!
scott-devon 11-15-2006, 04:34 PM Very nice shots Bev, judging from the background in shot number 3 that is one fast bird!
Loupey 11-15-2006, 05:38 PM Oh, now - I quit! The way the images come up on my computer (#4 to #1), I thought: (#4) that's nice, (#3) that's great, (#2) omigod, (#1) "clunk" - jaw hitting the ground.
Bev, I'm getting on a flight to the UK - and I'm not leaving until you teach me how you do it :) Besides, I'd like to take a crack at the lake with some flies.
Thanks everyone for replies.
Yes Paulnj, this trip i was hoping to get a shot of a feeding dive, or nearest to it! and i was pleased with what i got, but i am working on getting a little nearer next visit, we are never satisfied are we? nearer, longer! ( and theres no chance of anything longer at the moment) i suppose thats the challenge we all love about photography.
Oh Loupey! LOL, you are kind, But please dont give up!!? we shall all miss those brilliant macros you get, and im useless at macro photography, so shall we strike a deal!! but you'd have to come over here as i would have to be drugged, tied and definately gagged for me to get on an aeroplane!
Smartwombat, id love a longer lense but thats as realistic at the moment as me winning the lottery (helps if you do it), so iv opted for the having to get nearer to my subject option!
Copy_Kot 11-16-2006, 05:34 AM I'm getting on that flight with Loupey :) ....... and then a hop over to Scotland for some puffin images :)
They are all outstanding images Bev! I really like the first one, and I really really really like the second image with the reflection!

Copy_Kot 11-17-2006, 02:14 PM Great link Paul. I know where I'm going this coming summer :)
paulnj 11-18-2006, 05:36 PM just so you know, seal machias is hit or miss for photos depending on weather and puffins are very difficult to expose properly once the sun gets high.
I have been trying to get there for 3 summers, but never make it.
