I took these on my hawaii trip, all with my film nikon n2000. They were scanned on to disk at ritz when i got the developed.

lookign for critique, esp on the madagascar gold speck day geckos. (it was a very very small young one with otu spots yet)

this one was cropped to about 38% but it is sitting on the palm of my hand near my thumb.

Dylan, I like the first Gecko shot. Nice comp and the eyes are in focus. It looks like it is lost out in a sea. At this level of crop the noise is pretty significant. Perhaps use that to your advantage by doing a B&W or sepia or special effects (don't know exactly what). I'm thinking along the lines of the look we used to get pushing Tri-X B&W film to ISO 800.

As for the flowers, I like the second one as I generally don't like the look of a straight-on flower shot. In the second one, even though the background is nicely out of focus, it still makes the subject better connected with its environment.

i think most of the noise in the 2 lizard shots is due to a cheaper lense at macro, with 3 diopler (cheep)lenses attached for a +7 :-)

and i agree with the first flower shot being shot straight on, i'll post another of the smae flowers, see if you like it better. (although the dof isn't what it should be in it)

I too like the 1st image best, but as you know the diopters degraded the images :wink:

Dylan, forgot to get back to you - sorry. I like your repost of the pink flower better than the original.

It's what I call "at their level" kind of shot - more intimate and involved.

You know, despite the use of your so called "cheaper lens" and diopters, this image works for these flowers. It looks like a impressionistic type painting or watercolor.
