View Full Version : Dragonfly or Damsel fly?

This little guy was flying around my neighbors garden yesterday so I thought I'd get a shot and try to identify it. It was about the size of a pushpin that my mom used to use when she was sewing quilts.

Not much color on it so I tried my best to keep the head in focus as I shot. These shots are all cropped in tight as if I didn't you'd simply see a bunch of grass blades since he's so small.

Damselfly.

Damselfly's wings are positioned together (like the one you have shown here) when the are at rest. Dragonfly wings stick out to the sides when they are at rest. I don't know if this is true for ALL dragonfly & damselfy's but that's how I tell them apart. I just learned that this summer thanks to this forum. :)

The 1ST image is pretty nice(could use some sharpening), but the 2nd image is too contrasty from the lighting. Maybe fill flash would help, but otherwise midday sun cast too harsh a shadow usually.
