Very nice image Dylan! I love delicate arch, but I think it's one of those spots that gets photographed so much, that all of the images start to look he same. I think the rainbow makes this a very unique imge of his landmark. I could just be the angle that you took the pictrure from, the it appears to be leaning to the right.

I try not to critique images at work because everything looks really dark on this monitor. I can't wait to get home and view this on a better machine. As for the dark spot in the corner, you can try the shadow/highlight adjustment (Image>Adjustment>Shadow/Hightlight) in PS to see if that will bring out a little more detail, as well as the dodge tool. Create a duplicate layer and make your adjusments on that. Then you can adjust the opacity to fine tune your changes. I did play around with it a bit, but with this monitor, it's hard to tell if I helped, or made it worse. :)

wow dylan, gorgeous!! I agree with Michael, it is definitely the rainbow that makes this image stand out. the only thing maybe I would suggest is to fix the slight tilt to the right. otherwise, again, wow!! :D

if you have never been there, you'd be surprised at how much of a tilit the arch actually has. i'm pretty sure it is pretty close to being level, but i will double check it against some other images.


michale, the enitre image is pretty dark, and probbably needs lightened alittle. as far as post editing i don't have ps :-( only arcsoft photostudio 5.5.

i will probbably be playing with this image a bunch to get it perfect and may have a bunch of questions.


and btw part of the story is i had to run the final bit to get to the arch and the rainbow was still gone within 5 mins, so i had no time to get a different angle and barly time to get my film camera out and snap a pic or 2.

Wow Dylan, great picture! Why not leave it as is? The dark corner does not bother me at all.

copy kot- thanks, thats an option as well, i just though it would look stronger if it wasn't there. but all my attempts haven't looked good at all.

I agree, the dark corner is fine. If anything it adds another element to a pretty nice photo. The sky is tremendous, the arch, rainbow.... I think it is great the way it is.

Talk about being in the right place at the right time! I've not been there personally, but the tilt does appear to be camera induced.

I wouldn't be too worried about the dark corner. I'd be happy just to have gotten the shot off in time :p

Awesome shot Dylan. I love the entire sky...it reminds me of the moment after a storm when the sun first shines through and the world seems to fade back into existance.

Yeah so heres the story. I was planning on going to the arch for the full moon. Because i was hiking all the way up there i was goign to go in time for the best lighting from sunset ( about an hour before it sets) so as i was leaving my house a giant storm hit. drivign north following the storm i entered the park and saw all the flash floods and pour offs gushing. No time to stop i said, need to get to the arch. took me longer to get to the parking lot due to slow driving. i got out of my car and started hiking the 1.5 miles all up hill, ( takes me about 30 mins with my camera gear) in the rain and a few thunder claps. i had just though about how awesoem it would be to see a ranibow at the arch, and about half way up i saw this incredable rainbow, over 180 degrees so i got out my digital and took a few pictures. not thinking it would last until i got to delicate. this then became a double rainbow. as i neared the arch i got to frame arch and ran up to it. snapped a few pics and then RAN along the ledge to the actual view point, snapped a few with my digital and then had to dig my film slr out of my bag and snapped 2 pics and had to switch to a tighter lense ( i picked to tight of one_ and snapped another as the rainbow was fading away.

heres the one with frame arch around it. (haven;t gotten a chance to play with the contrast and colors with this one yet).

i could probbably rotate this one with out making it look to bad, but the arch really is this sloped.

oh yeah and i agree it is WAY overshot, i do have the classic normal sunset pics, but don't post them. i always look for the "different" shot to take. i have full moon pics, reflections in puddles, completely dark ones with no moon, the shadow from the full moon and now these.

Here it is with more detail in the dark areas. Does this help?

hey thanks alot ronocco. i like it alot, although im not sure which one is more aethestically pleasing. i think ive been looking at this photo to much since last night.

heres a shot i took this morning when i TRIED to get sunrise pics, but it was cloudy and the sun rose not where i was predicting. BUt anyhows this is from approximently the same position, shot from LEVELED tripod. sorry for the grain, forgot to change it back from the darker period i was shooting from 5am to 6 am.
