and peg pardon for any funmbling around. I have photos posted at The Final Turn gallery, which is horse racing fans posting pictures. It seems here I can do the same, but learn something in the process.

I got into photography years ago (had an old Fuji til it was held together w/ rubberbands), and have been getting back in again, for the sake of my passion - horse racing. I welcome any thoughts, ideas and critiques. I posted a few in the photo gallery under sport & action.

Here's a few from 2006 - I well opinions

Hope you have found a home here on PR's Sports Forum. We have a wide degree of photography skills displayed here but incourage all to post. Our main goal is for all of us to improve our images and enjoy sports photography more. Good to have someone who will give us some good horse racing photos. What kind of equipment are you shotting now? Lvoe that second pic I think I twould have been improved with a little more crop on the left to the rear of the horses.

I shot this w/ a Canon 70-200mm USM IS f2.8. I also got the EF 17-85 USM IS. Still learning it, but it's a lovely camera to learn on. I found when shooting racing, I set to automatic, sports mode - it's just easier to shoot that way - I shoot continuous@ 5fps, adjusting zoom as needed.

I don't like using a mono- or tripod at the track, so trying to adjust both zoom and focus and trying to hold a heavy lense (after 5 races my hands hurt likehell)is just too much. I've figured the angles to hold so it doesn't focus on someone's hand or other unwanted item - at least for Aqueduct and Belmont. And Gulfstream was pretty easy - pouring rain and nobody around.

It can be cropped more, it is in other finished shot of same pix. But I worked from originals so I could reduce to size neccesary to post. I normally crop a little closer, don't know why I didn't do it on this one :frown2:

I guess when I post these I should identify the horse. Seeing as you seem like the ponies, They are:
Top - King's Point Handicap @ Aquedct: Gold and Roses (outside) & Funny Cide
Middle - Woody Stephens Sprint @ Belmont: (Outside) Songster, Fabulous Strike & Too Much Bling
Bottom - The Holy Bull @ Gulfstream: Barbaro beats Great Point
