I think your overall contrast is even and your framing is PERFECT! I like the level of contrast in the water most, but the contrast in the sky is blah. If the sky looked similar to the girls shirt it would be more appealing. Lastly I know I said your framing was PERFECT, but if you were to shoot a subject like this again, try shooting it with your horizon at a diagonal. I like to do that when I want my subjects to have a more "relaxed" feeling. Devin MacShawn 07-19-2006, 01:32 AM One last thing. The photo looks a little grainy. I don't know if it was purposly done that way or not but IMHO it dosen't add or take anything away from the photo. It's still very good. MarcusK 07-19-2006, 01:34 AM This is a nice image, personally i think it is quite retro which gives it a nice appeal! The grain is interesting and the horizontal lines play out nicely. Personally though, i prefer off center subjects, this would be my first comment on this one here! You also may need to "fix" the white on your subject's chest, its a bit too distracting! Hope this helps! PS: I will soon have an online portfolio, as well as post some photos for critique which i hope will enable you all to understand my background, pretty much giving me some form of credibility when offering my opinion! :D Seb 07-19-2006, 06:13 AM Mamiya 6 MF+50mm Willem, I think that this is a fine photograph. I see no issue with a centered subject in a square frame (or with a rectangular frame, as long as it feels right...). I'd be curious to learn how your subject was lit, I really like the effect. Seb |
