it's got my curiosity as to how it happens. I've seen 2 different threads in the past 2 days that the time listed on the original post is later than the replies (or the first reply). I'm posting a link to one of the occurances. Note that the original post is below the first reply and the time of the reply is 3 minutes earlier than the original post.

Original post 11:59
Reply 11:56 - also posted before the original post

I hope that makes sense. Check it out. :)

Also.....is it me, or are the times way off in the new gallery? It has most of my mine being posted in the wee hours of the morning. When I'm asleep!

I noticed the postings out of sequence too Liz. This has happened on at least one of our other sites. I'll see what I can find out.

it's not a problem to me personally. I wouldn't have noticed it except that the "reply" being the first post in the thread only said "sweet" and I couldn't figure out what it was until I saw the original below the reply

At any rate, I thought PJ might want to know - then there's the weird times on the new gallery.... :o

I messaged John about the sequence of posts, and the time problem Liz. I'm sure he'll answer when he can :)

Hi Liz,

John has sent a message to our engineers about the time problem in the gallery.

Regarding the posts out of sequence, we haven't been able to figure out why. This is just a guess on my part, but when two posts come in close, time wise, I think this happens. But only if you are viewing in linear mode. If you switch to hybrid or threaded, the posts are in the correct order. Hopefully soon, we will upgrade VBulletin to the latest version and it will fix the problem.

Think about this, Super Moderator...

If one of us were to answer our own post before we posted it, THEN replied to the first answer before IT was posted, this whole thing could easily snowball and a domino effect insue that could very well DISRUPT THE SPACE TIME CONTINUUM and bring an end to life as we know it!

And it would all be YOUR fault...

Like cloning, perhaps this was something man was NOT meant to screw around with... :(

You can't just decide NOT to be a Super Moderator anymore, can you???

I mean, could Superman just decide to go back to being MAN? Of course not. And if a Supermodel ever tried to return to being just a MODEL, the whole fashion world would colapse.

Hmmm, I gotta think about this. BTW, does that mean a Super Moderator position has opened up??? :D

We know better than to panic when Steve is involved. Or is it that we know to panic when Steve is involved? I can never remember. :D

***Making fun of Steve and testing again too*** See? I multitask! I can even walk and chew gum at the same time!

Lara - it looks like you've got two servers servin' up the time - and they're off from each other by about 7 minutes. If I go to the bottom of the page where it gives the time I see it as 1:12 GMT-4. Refreshing a few times gives me 1:19am GMT-4. Refresh a few more times? I'm now at 1:13 GMT-4. I'm going back in time! It's awesome.

So even though Sebastian replied before I did (he's post 12507 and I'm 12509) here (http://forums.photographyreview.com/showthread.php?t=2282) he hit the later time server. Same as in Liz's example. Which also explains why the order looks right in some display modes and not others, since some of them go strictly off time and some go off message #.

That's my crackpot theory anyway. ***hanging dorky head in shame***

Hi Danielle :) I don't know about having two servers servin' up the time. But there definitely is something odd going on. The time issue with VBulletin has always been a thorn in my side! The managers and engineers claim an upgrade will solve several issues we have, including the fact that linear display mode puts posts out of order. View them in hybrid or threaded mode and the order is correct. I "bring up these issues" every now and then cause it drive me nuts! I can just picture the guys rolling their eyes, or maybe sticking pins in a voodoo doll that looks a lot like me!

Steve! Go to your room (asylum)! No, you can't have my job. :p

Oh geeze, I'm going to go out on a limb her and probably hang myself, lol. Steve, what suggestion do you have for my title?

Yes, the gallery forum time is way off Liz. :( I did mention it to John yesterday. But he was swamped at work and couldn't discuss it with the engineers. I know it's frustrating, but I am sure John wants it fixed as well. Let's give it a bit and see if it gets fixed. If it remains a problem feel free to let us know.

with all the talk about the posting times here, I just wanted to put a reminder up. Thanks! :)

It's good that you alert us and remind us about any problems Liz! You can remind me any time! I'll do my best to channel it in the right direction. Sometimes an issue gets buried and forgotten.

Have a great day!

Actually, I took a look at the forums and the gallery yesterday. The gallery should be an easy fix and I passed the problem on the the engineers. I do expect that the time will be California time once it's corrected. I haven't been able to find any control for individual time zone adjustments like the forums have.

The forums problem is a little more mysterious. I'd never seen it because I have my account set to always display in "Hybrid Mode". That's one quick fix, if you want one. Just go to your account settings and set it so that all threads are displayed in hybrid mode. But I still need to talk to the engineers about the other problem. And since we need to do a software upgrade, I don't think we'll be doing any hacking until after that's done.

So the basic answer is - I hear you, we know about the problem, and hopefully a software upgrade will fix it. But I'm not sure how soon that will happen. If the out-of-sequence posts are really bugging you, switch to hybrid mode.

Thanks for letting us know about the problem. Since I've been usig hybrid mode, I never would have known. And thanks for being patient and being nice to Lara.

This is regarding posts out of order.

I think we "finally" have that issue under control. Please let me know, going forward, if any posts appear out of order.

Thanks :)

Cool Danielle!

It may have been my tenacious nature, :) but our engineers finally figured out the cause.
Guess they were tired of hearing from me lol.
