This little fart and his little brother popped out of the weeds next to a bike trail tonight. At first I started shooting from far away. Once I got my insurance shots, I started making my way towards it until I could have reached out and grabbed it. I guess one doesn't have to be too wary of predators with defenses like that :p
I was worried that its momma and/or pappa would come crashing out of the weeds at me. I never did see them. This guy was about the size of a squirrel.

All I can say is... You are obviously a smooth guy  Had you scared it, you would be sending your wife for tomato juice and a hammock for your new bedroom in the yard

LOL paul!
He is awfully cute... I can't believe how close you got to him Loupey! Nice shot!
You are a brave fine photographer. These guys don't have to be very mature or large to ruin the week! I've bathed many a dog who was just curious.
I hope you are aware that skunks have one of the highest potentials for being rabid?
Good shooting!

LOL! Thanks everyone for taking the time to comment. I did start out with the 2x TC at first as I thought it would see me and scurry away (first shot below of the original guy's little bro coming towards me as I was going towards it).
As I kept getting closer, I finally popped off the 2x but still got closer. Now that I think about it, it was pretty silly to get that close. I like to think I am nimble on my feet and but I doubt that I could dodge spray :p
Would you believe that, in order to try to get them from eating for even a moment, that I started grunting, squeeling, and stamping on the ground. At one point, when I was about 5 feet away, the young'n turned around and gave me a very uneasy look. We went our separate ways soon thereafter.
The second shot - the dangerous end of the skunk.
