That's a smart image, Knight.

Perhaps Paul can replace the spider sticky with this one (butterflies and moths). We would probably get more participation.

Knight, no more complaining about your lens - your images are great!

Think your right LL , im on my way to the city this afternoon . Any suggestions on a BF book ?

Loupey i have to do a little PS with most of my photos with this lens, it`s at its sharpest around 200mm but for $ 179.00 i cant complain. As for spiders the week is not over yet :) my wife tells me that she squished a big one a few days ago lol . Im having a hard time finding one lol.

I've been to Callaway a few times. It's great. Have you seen their raptor demo?

The white butterfly is called a Paper Kite or sometimes a Rice Paper Butterfly. The think the other one is an Owl Butterfly.

Good Captures Payn, LL , Mjs1973 and Bev , I think we truly need a resident Bug master here to ID all these insects. Wonder if there are any volunteers ?

Must be fate. I shoot moths for the first time and I come to PR to see a thread just for it. Unfortunately the majority of my shots are out of focus so I'll only have a couple to share. Live and learn!

Any IDs are always appreciated :D

I'll ID that one tonight Bev.
Haven't been out hunting lepidoptera for 20 years, so I'm a little rusty.

OK got it, I knew it was odd, it's one of the Browns (Satyridae) that isn't brown :)
Marbled White (Melanargia galathea) usually flies in July and August.
Which explains why yours is fresh looking.

Eric, I have no idea what it is either. But it's cool that you captured it!

Even if the DOF is off a little (precisely in between the moth and flying thingamabug as Murphy would dictate), I'm glad you tripped the shutter. I imagine that the flying one did not stay there for long.

Yes, that thingamabug was all over the place. I had the camera at 3 fps and by the next frame the thingamabug was behind the moths wing.

I thought those two would duke it out :D

Glad you like it. Thanks.

I'm not sure, but I think it was here: http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/butterflies/

Of course, that won't help you figure out where the butterfly came from, but it is a great place to visit.:D

Here's one of the first micro shots I ever took (2001 or 2002?). It was from a Minolta film camera with a 100-300mm Tamron lens and a reversed 50mm f/1.4 Canon screwed on in reverse. Do you all know what it is?

Lava Lamp
06-26-2006, 04:58 PM
This is from 2005 with a Tamron 90mm macro plus 1.4x TC using a D70 digital. Same animal (or maybe his/her grandson/daughter) from 2005.

Loupey

Shot a Luna Moth many years ago but nothing recent :(

Here's what I have so far. For now, I'm after a better shot of that Snowberry Clearwing Hummingbird Moth (is that a mouthful or what?!) that I shot earlier.
