I like the textures and patterns in this subject and wonder which version you folks prefer. Any suggestions for improvements?

Are you sure?? :D GB1 06-09-2006, 08:27 AM Chunk - I like them both for different reasons. The first is very green and pretty. The second shows the textures quite nicely and some interesting shaded regions. Neither have an incredibly strong subject, however, but they are well composed shots. Nice to see some summertime green. GB gahspidy 06-09-2006, 09:59 PM Chunk, i feel #2 is the stronger shot. The shadows of the leaves on the rock and stump is the subject ,for me, and it is much more to the point in # 2. I agree with CLKunst here. Great pattern subjects as usual. mjs1973 06-10-2006, 04:35 AM I too am choosing #2 Chunk. I like the composition much better than the first. Like Gary said, the rock and stump are the subject and the tree in the front of the first image distracts from that. I also like how the second image is a bit darker. It really helps to bring out the textures in the rock and stump. Nice work Chunk. OldSchool 06-10-2006, 09:17 PM Hey Chunk, Nice job on both. I'm going to be a contrarian and go with #1. I don't know if it because it's the first one I saw, but it is just pleasing to look at. Plenty of things to draw my attention and study. I especially like the contrast of the shadow leaves on the rock going the other way -- kind of like a negative or something. BR, Tim Chunk 06-11-2006, 07:20 AM GB, Gary, Mike, and Tim, thank you all for taking the time to look and comment. The shadows on the rock were what first caught my attention. Framing the wider shot was to show the rock more in context of its setting and include the twisted branches, and I'm glad to know that seems a distraction to some of you. Tim, I understand what you mean about the shadows going the other way. I like that better than in this shot where the shadows are in the same direction as the most noticable leaves. Chunk, I think that the patterns are fantastic in both shots but I definately prefer the second one because of the solid composition. I think that the first one would look better if you were to crop the left side up to the tree trunk so the branch that point toward the left isn't visible. To me, the first one looks more like a straight forward capture of what you saw rather than a carefully crafted composition as it currently stand... But then again, great patterns and good exposure.
