View Full Version : A Cloudy Day Tuna 06-04-2006, 06:29 PM http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v382/redboys/CloudyDay144.jpg Anbesol 06-04-2006, 08:14 PM you know what, im not a big fan. you have built up quite a rapport to me as being an outstanding photographer and that probably makes me a bit extra critical of some of your work. This simply doesnt say anything to me, the composition is very tight and the picture lacks substance. Seb 06-04-2006, 09:00 PM http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v382/redboys/CloudyDay144.jpg Tuna, this one doesn't have the "wow factor" that several of your pictures have but I think that the composition is quite clever. I appreciate the stripes that acts like levels. This picture is all about composition but I can appreciate it for what it is. Seb Yoyo Szeto 06-05-2006, 03:54 AM Hi Tuna, I find the pic has an illusion effect. I guess it it the collage style makes me feel it that way. The upper part seems to have a normal perspective but the bottom part tells us that the camera is facing upward. It also reminds me of Le Corbusier's modular. Interesting! yoyo PlantedTao 06-05-2006, 07:13 AM I think it is a very clever shot, one that would get overlooked by most. I also love the tones and overall composition. I wondering if this is IR film, just a red filter or heavy processing? I do believe this would have been a stronger image without the railing...it is just too ornate for this simple composition. I believe this is the spoiler for me on this photo...it kills the feel of a good, simple photo. Cheers. GB1 06-05-2006, 09:20 AM Looks like an optical illusion. I like it for what it does - confuse me :) Personally, I think a color version would have worked better (you have?). I would also crop off a little, say 30-40%, of the sky at the top so it isn't so dominant. I think that there's just too much conflict/tension the way it is right now: the 'blocks' all seem to be the same size, etc. Overall, congrats on a clever pic. GB Overbeyond 06-05-2006, 10:09 AM I agree with Tao concerning the metal balcony - it's a little too complicated against the simple horizontals and vertical and sort of interferes with the various panels. But this is about the cloudy sky and the way your eye has choosen to record it. It does not have the so called dreaded wow factor and I'm so glad that none of your photographs possess it. Instead you offer something to ponder on, something devoid of any photographic cliche and that we haven't seen before, slow burners that stand up to repeated viewings. Tom |
