View Full Version : Tree Stump Offspring Don Schaeffer 05-16-2006, 07:56 PM http://www.shuttertalk.com/forums/images/upload/growingstumpSM.jpg stormrider 05-16-2006, 08:07 PM http://www.shuttertalk.com/forums/images/upload/growingstumpSM.jpg Don, when I first looked at the image, I wasn't sure what the main subject was - I'm thinking less tree stump and more offspring might be better - the background is nicely blurred out though OldSchool 05-17-2006, 05:27 AM Hi Don, That's a nice concept you have going there, and I think it could be a very pleasing photo. However, what is that slight haze on top of the stump? If this is nearby, I would suggest a re-shoot. It looks to be morning or afternoon light, but the light is still a little harsh. I would go back when the sun is lower to try and get warmer tones. Also, I would try a different angle such that the background is more uniform. I find the wall, pipe, and fence a little distracting. Maybe just try and get only the hedge? Good luck, Tim ltilley 05-17-2006, 05:29 AM I agree about the background. I would change the angle so that only the dark background was behind it. I almost like the haze on the top.... Don Schaeffer 05-17-2006, 06:45 PM I had to use post processing to produce the blur.I had to phase out the stump so you wouldn't see the hard line between the stump and the background. Anbesol 05-17-2006, 08:42 PM yuou know don - in my opinion it seems you always get a little bit too trigger happy with post processing... are you using photoshop? or some other type of program? If the latter is your answer, I might try doing something with photoshop, even elements if you have to, because you can have more precise control without having to overkill. As far as this shot goes - I would go for a more uniform background, the half green, half red/white really isnt doing much for me. I also think you could angle it a bit better to put more focus on the "offspring" and the creator, the stump. Alison 05-18-2006, 01:02 PM Do you have manual controls with this camera? How is your knowledge of aperture settings? dbutler 05-18-2006, 01:21 PM I like the concept and I love the texture in the trunk. I agree with everyone else on their suggestions, but this can be a great image with a bit of tweaking or a re-shoot. ANd try placing the little guy in different parts of the frame. Would be neat to see if doing so gives you another perspective you like better. |
