Also, how close are you to the action? I haven't been to a h.s. bb game in years. A co-worker of my wife wants me to shoot some of her son's h.s. game soon, and although I can probably figure it out when I get there, what's a good, safe focal length. I'm used to anywhere from 180-300 at the minor league games, so would it be much shorter or about the same? John Old Timer 05-02-2006, 05:34 PM Actually OT, I like them. I have pretty good access on my home town diamond and can get pretty close. I can shoot from the corners of either dugout or from behind the catcher (thru the fence of course). I can also shoot from just over either dugout which puts me about half way down the first or third base line. When shooting from the closer position I generally will use the 80-200 that covers the batters box and first or third base depending on the side I am shooting on. When I move to the corner of the dugout I will usually switch to the 70-300 zoom. I can cover second from here as well as getting pretty good framing on first from the third base side and third from the first base side. The two images I posted tonight were with the 70-300 zoom and shot from the third base side as you can see. Hope this helps a little. It all comes down to where you can get access to shoot and how the field is psotioned on this late afternoon games and the setting sun that can play havoc with your light meter, and you have to watch out for flare as you shoot into the side facing the setting sun. JSPhoto 05-02-2006, 06:14 PM OT, Don't you have an area where your allowed to shoot at all HS fields? Were allowed a certain area inside the field to shoot from if the fence s too high to shoot from, and some newer fields have stands to shoot from! It depends on the field and the umpires. Some fields are very hard to shoot from beacuse of restrictive fences other are more wide open. I'm kind of lucky in that the taller fences at my home field only extend to the end of the dugouts. We are not a regulated as you are or maybe it's just because we are in a very rural area. I don't know. |
