I took this one a couple of days ago. Since my 70-300 didn't have near enough reach, I had to crop it down to make it somewhat presentable.

Thats a nice running catch, as well as the timing in getting the ball right there, of course the only thing I could say about it is, to bad he wasn't running toward the left side where you could have captured his face but then you might have run into the same problem as you have and that's with his arm up in front of his face. Overall not to bad..

The only problem here is that you can't see the players face.

Yeah JS, but somehow I don't think he'll mind when I give him a copy ;) .

Nice Pic... I like the look of the "over the shoulder catch"...

Great timing on the shot. Even though you can't see the face, its still a good capture because of the timing.

Under the circumstances you did a pretty good job here. I pretty much have given up on trying to get a good outfield catch unless the fielder is comming toward me and past halfway in from the outfield. I just don't have the lens to reach the action.

I hear ya OT.....unless I'm out along the left or right field fence, I can pretty much give up on getting decent outfield shots. That this turned out so well was pure luck, especially since I had to crop it so much. I'm going to be spending most of the next homestand out in the bleachers so I can get some good shots. I think it boils down to being relatively close to the lines, and waiting until the CF has to make a run in your direction. Ideally it would have been nice to get that running catch with the CF'ers face showing, but some things you just have to get when the opportunity arises. I keep thinking back to the pictures of Willie Mays' catch in the 1954 World Series. I wonder if that would have been as dramatic a picture if it had been taken from the CF bleachers. I think one or two exist, but the one everybody remembers is the one with his back to the plate. I'll post any good ones I get.

BTW.......I recropped this so he's more to the left side of the frame, and has more room to run to the right. Had a couple of copies printed up and will give him one and have him sign one next week. I'll let you know what he says. I think he's going to like it.

Most of these guys love seeing pictures of themselves in action. I'm sure he is going to love it.

That's most of the reason I do it. I really get a kick out of watching them show the pictures to their teammates. Makes it all worthwhile. As an added benefit, they are more willing to accomodate a special request if I have one. OT, the way I see it, they're all pretty far from home, doing what they do, and in the grand scheme of things, don't think much about the now....but later on, their kids will want to know about their playing days and they'll be able to show them their year in Battle Creek. I give each one a cd with images burned throughout the year, and I know the families get a real kick out of them. I've got a website and web journal dedicated to the team, and I hear from the families quite a bit. I guess I've kind of become a touchstone for them. That's the most rewarding thing about all of it. You can't put a price tag on that.

Great capture...wish I had a longer lens. I think he'll be very happy with this capture.
