does anybody else here think deer make an interesting subject?

i dont find them incredibly spectacular, but they sure are fun to shoot! (with a camera)

unfortunately around here, its deer and birds, not much else - opossums i suppose ;)

And what's wrong with birds?? :)

The top one is by far the best due to it looking at you. Going away is better than nothing though !

I shoot deer once fall comes and the birds leave, but we have far less in my area than we used to have.

well - that would be a true game of patience. I'll shoot for that - but if they dont jump then i cant get it, i could bring somebody to scare them off, but its hard enough trodding through thorns and bushes with a tripod and camera gear (quietly).... I will be lucky to catch one jumping.

yes I like the top one as well! I only wish i got the full body - i cut off a smidgen of its feet, bah!

Tripod? Uh? Never used one, I shoot everything handheld, even with a Canon 400mm. You don't have time to set set up and shoot. I can't even see using a monopod...too restricting.

aah, yes - i bring that for long exposures though - i certainly wasnt using them to shoot the deer, mind you ;)...

however - its an interesting idea not being bogged down by one - maybe forget about those types of shots and rid myself of that nasty thing!

OK, well for long exposures, yeah, then a tripod is useful, but I have seen birders and other wildlife photogs using tripods and monopods then complain they missed a shot. Well, yeah, you missed because you had to set up the tripod, and while you did that I got 5 shots before you scared em off cussing at the tripod....lol
