View Full Version : Something VERY differnt for me
JSPhoto 04-21-2006, 07:10 PM This afternoon I get an urgent call to go take some photos from a parent and this is what I wound up doing.
#1: A one of a kind (so far) stretched Limo by Rolls Royce.
#2: my main target
#3: the whole group.
#4: OK ..... see if you can tell where I messed this shot up
It was interesting to see the kids all dressed up, normally I see them all hot and sweating during games....they clean up pretty well!
I_Fly 04-21-2006, 07:24 PM Nice photos.
Looks like there's something "growing" out of the young man's head in #4. :)
But I'll bet it would have been hard to see through the viewfinder.

Old Timer 04-21-2006, 07:29 PM Welcome to the real world John. Most of us are doing this kind of picture all the time. I only dream of the time when sports is all I have to shot. How about the girls in blue and pink, basketball players??? Looks like they both of them have the size to play inside.
JSPhoto 04-21-2006, 07:35 PM OT, Believe it or not the girl in pink didn't play sports! The girl in blue used to play volleyball but skipped this season because she didn't like the coach.
The girl in blue - I have never been able to get that kid to smile before, today I couldn't stop her!
Ken & I-Fly .... BINGO! lol, I never saw it until later looking at the pictures on the viwefinder. The girl in blue's mother hired me and I showed her that and she busted out laughing and said "Alfalfa!" . She wants a copy of that one "before" I fix it... hehehe

Loupey 04-22-2006, 05:45 AM John, the group shot shows that there were at least 2 possibly 3 other "photographers" taking pixs next to you? Hard to keep everyone looking at the "real photographer", eh? Blasted other photographers :p

Actually I did pretty well considering there were 20 parents and 24 cameras besides mine.
The hilarious part was there was one guy who claimed to be a pro who was very snobby towards me. Must have been the fact that he had more money in his clothes than his camera (a Rebel XT with kit lens) and I was just the opposite. The guy who hired him asked to see my pictures and may buy some...wasn't happy with his guys stuff. The guy wasn't using flash and had some serious shadows. I heard him tell one parent "his photos won't look right using that flash, he will have black backgrounds"..... guess he doesn't know about Canon ETTL-II and fill flash :D

Don't you just love guys like that. But you run into them everywhere you go. I had a guy here in my town once years ago when I was doing weddings started undercutting my price to get business. I had the mother of a bride call me after he had botched a wedding and got nothing at all. He had told her the lab screwedup. He knew this because before he sent them the exposed film and before it was developed he had taken it into the dark room and looked at it and he knew that he had good pictures. She asked me if this was possible. What do you do? I tried to be as diplomatic as possible and informed her that I must not be as good a photographer as he was because I didn't know how to look at film before it was developed and evaluate pictures. In all fairness the guy has gotten better over the last 25 years and now has a studio in town and does a very creditable job on studio portraits.
JSPhoto 04-22-2006, 07:18 AM One nice thing OT is that everyone of the parents knows me, and only one knew the other guy.
BTW, I saw your message on the other forum and it is odd, but photos do look better over there than here. I have never figured that out. It was the exact same file in both places! Very odd!

I agree they seem to have a bit more pop. Don't post there often but do with perticular images.
Loupey 04-22-2006, 10:59 AM I never quite understood the bad-mouthing method of doing any business. It is one way, I guess. But I think good-mouthing ones own work is better than bad-mouthing someone elses ;)
Then again, I never ran for office either.

LOL! :D
Great photos JS; I'm glad the woman who hired you thought it was funny too!:)
JSPhoto 05-01-2006, 08:01 PM Well I must have done something right.... the family that hired me for this job just hired me to shoot a friends daughter this Saturday for her pre-prom pictures :D That helps in more ways too because she goes to school in another town 25 miles away and will get my name down there too.....always a good thing

OldSchool 05-02-2006, 05:43 AM Very nice,
Tim
p.s. When my daughter was three, she would point to anybody with a mohawk and say "Look Daddy, he has horse hair."
