I letf just in time, 3 minutes later it started raining! JS Nice shots John. I have missed the first couple of home meet. I always enjoy track meets even if I'm not photographing. I hope to make one on Tuesday if the weather stays nice. Don't like shotting track in the rain. JSPhoto 04-21-2006, 06:45 AM It seems that every track meet I shoot it rains. It's been that way for three years. I just have no luck with weather & track! JS Old Timer 04-21-2006, 09:55 AM It seems that every track meet I shoot it rains. It's been that way for three years. I don't know about Indiana, but in the KHSAA manuel it says very clearly that, " Most spring sports will be rained out in case of sunny weather proceed at own risk." At least the KHSAA has a sense of humor! The IHSAA doesn't! John livin4lax09 04-21-2006, 12:58 PM I really like that last one. Good conditions to shoot in. The first one, i'm not sure whether it's oof or motion blur. Doesn't look like motion blur, but I can't find your focus point...hmm. .. I would go from straight on for the long jump. Running events are so hard to make interesting... how about a slow pan? JSPhoto 04-21-2006, 03:45 PM Liven, You have to play by the rules, and in this case (long jump) you can't be any closer than across the track and shoot head on. It's a safety issue. As it was I was closer than they want, but enough off to the side they didn't care. I have seen photogs booted from the place for trying to shoot head on too close. JS livin4lax09 04-21-2006, 05:16 PM really. there's usually tons of people standing at the end of the long jump whenever I've been to a meet. Must be different rules. SmartWombat 04-22-2006, 01:48 AM in this case (long jump) you can't be any closer than across the track and shoot head on. It's a safety issue. <sigh> that seems a poor excuse. Sounds like it's an ass-covering issue. No one is going to out-jump the pit :) Sand in your face, or in the lens, isn't an issue either. So what exactly is their problem? The camera? Or you? JSPhoto 04-22-2006, 06:06 AM SW, No one is ass covering, I have seen people come out of the pit, not out jump it but fall out of it. There could have been some injuries from that, it's all in the name of safety. One school had to redesin it's pit due to issues with the end of the pit, I haven't seen it but I know it's not where it used to be. It had a dropoff at the end of the pit. It's worse for the state finals as they do not allow you anywhere near the pit at all. Your 40+ feet away! It's that way actually for all the events from sectionals on. Even the company that does the state finals has limited access at track events. Hey, I don't like it, but you have to what the officials say or your out. JS I don't have much restriction on where I shot from during regular meets, but once the regionals start they get pretty strict. And the state meet forget it, you can't get close to the action at all. And the state meet forget it, you can't get close to the action at all. I think part of it here is they want it pretty much the same start to finish, which in a way is good as there are no surprises once the state finals roll around. Now there is one official who lets me do wahat I want during regular season events, but he's a local and knows I know what I am doing. Too bad he doesn't do all the area meets :( JS |
