Hey y'all....I ain't been around in awhile as I've been trying to get a bunch of new websites finished up for some of the drivers at a couple of our local tracks.

I'm also track photographer at 2 tracks this season, so I have a feeling I'm going to be busy this summer....

At one of the tracks, they have Victory Lane outside the track, so that all the victory photos can be done while the next feature is rolling out onto the track and starting. Good idea in theory, but it is a nightmare trying to be in two places at once!!

So my wife is going to start shooting the victory lane shots, while I stay down on the track, shooting the features. (She shot victory lane last year when we were just covering the track for AARN and National Dirt) Problem is, the Fuji S5000 that she used then has suddenly quit working.

So we're looking to get her a new P&S to use to get the Victory Lane shots; anyone have any recommendations for us?

To be honest I wouldn't use a P&S for this. I would get something like a 30D.
My reason for saying this is, having been in the business you want something that will work for publication and large prints, and P&S just will not cut it, especially for certian print types and definately not large 20x30 prints. Yeah, you can make them, but the quality just isn't there, and it could hurt sales. And you don't want some magazine saying " we couldn't use your photo because it was crappy quality".
It took one race track three years to figure out a P&S won't work, no matter how many people told them they just didn't get it. Yeah, it's $1500 plus a lens and flash, but you will make it back in course of the season, and then some. Victory lane is one of your biggest sellers and therefore you shouldn't skimp on the photos!
