It's been a while since I've posted in this forum. I thought since most people post "wildlife" pics here I would mix the bag with a "nature" pic :)

Beautiful shot Rick! I love Antelope Canyon. I've only been there once, and it was before I was into photography so I didn't come home with anything like this. I was in that area about this time last year, but didn't make it to the canyon.

I think it was 97 when I was there. I was on a 3 week field trip in the SW for 4 college credits. The best class I ever took! A week or two after we got back, there was a tour group in the canyon when a flash flood came thru. I don't remember the details, but I know alot, maybe all, of them were killed...

That place has never produced a bad image, has it? Where is it compared to Pheonix anyway?

You haven't seen the pics I took when I was there, bad images are possible. :D If I remember right, Atelope Canyon is in Page AZ, very top, center of the state. Pheonix is straight south, about 2/3 of the way down the state.

Well, then I will say that I have never seen a bad image from there.

Thanks Ronnoco. The colors are natural, sunlight reflecting off the sandstone creating the shades of orange and red. If you do a google image search you can find lots of shots of the canyon, many better than this one :)

A field trip for class credit?? Why aren't I going to that school?!

There are deaths in Antelope probably every year, all happen the same way you described. People in the canyon when it flash floods. Not sure if they had this in 97 or not but there are signs everywhere now to be careful of flash flooding. The Navajo tour guide I had said that the small floods actually fill the canyon floor up b depositing sediment in the bottom, and the big floods lower the floor by whisking it all out. Very dangerous, but oh so beautiful :)

I have a few bad ones :) Hard to get good exposures in there with narrow walls, tripods everywhere, quickly changing light, and wide spectrums of exposure latitude. But that one good one makes it worth while :)

That's right, antelope is at Lake Powell/Page, about 4 hours north of Phoenix on the Utah border. Great concentration of natural beauty up there with Lake Powell, Antelope, Horseshoe Bend, Marble Canyon, Vermillion Cliffs, Monument Valley, Escalante, and the North Rim all within an hour or so from each other :)

Rick, great shot! One of my brothers recently moved to the Phoenix area and I have been itching to go visit him and his wife out there not so much to see them rather than to see that and those. I hope he is not reading this thread :o

I have seen this vantage point before. Is there a fixed spot from which you can photograph this section? Or can one continue further from this point? It seems pretty pristine there and I can't imagine it staying that way for this long if they let people run amuck. Knowing when to go when visitors are few is probably the key? I was told to go in February as the weather is comfortable and the number of visiting people are minimal.

Don't forget Rainbow Bridge! I'm not sure how accesible it is without a boat, but it's something to see. I know I saw an image of it from "behind" on the cover of a photo mag a while back (Outdoor Photographer I think). I think the photog hired a Navajo guide to get the non-typical view of the arch. We took a boat tour across Lake Powel to see it. I don't remember how long it took us to get to it, but it was a whle. Well worth the trip tho.

At first look i tought it was just some fancy Photoshop work , its hard to believe that such a place could exist with such vibrant colors :) This is a very special photo indeed . Well captured Walter :)
