I played horse shoes for the first time this weekend, and although I didn't play so well, I did get some pretty interesting shots:

try going lower with a wider zoom on the throwing shots. It will give more of a look of power.

An interesting and challenging subject, for sure. I sort of like the one of the horseshoe landing in the dirt. I think shooting from a higher angle so we can see more of the horseshoe might work better. If you aren't sure, it's good to be experimental and go for variety. That way you have a lot of different photos to use for evaluation and learn from.

The ones of the guys throwing don't really work for me. I'm not sure how you'd best shoot that. Right off the top of my head I'd see use a wide lens, get as close as you can to the horseshoe as it's being thrown, pan, and try to get the photo just as it leaves the thrower's hand. That would be tough shot, but it might work really well.

Now I want to try shooting horseshoes to see what I can do!:D

So, treat the pitching like baseball?

that would probably be better i'm sure, i played for a while and then wondered what i could get out of it, i have a ton of them i took, i just threw out some. i do like the dirt one better than any of the ones of them throwing it.

I will try it again soon and test out some of your ideas and see how it goes

thanks!
