 i'm a rookie!! i ordered a Canon A610. i'm not sure what would be the best SD card to buy. i'm leaning towards a SanDisk Ultra ll 1.0 GB. Is bigger better?? Also, would i need to buy a card reader if i got this card? thanks for any help.

I think that should be fine, at least to start off with. Maybe down the line you can get another one, but that's just my 2 cents. As for card readers I looked and seen this one at not a bad price, from a great dealer. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=365895&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation. Hope this helps out.

A bigger card is better, for sure. It's better to have too much memory than to run out right when the perfect photo opportunity occurs. Check prices to determine the sweet spot between price and capacity. My guess is that 2 512mb cards might be cheaper than a single 1 gig. I would avoid high-speed cards with that camera. It's doubtful whether you'll benefit from the technology. The bottleneck with compact cameras is usually in the camera, not the card.

Card readers are always a good idea. You won't need one. But they're cheap and a much better way to transfer image files than having to plug your camera into the computer. Get a USB 2.0 reader that handles all memory types. That way if you buy a new camera or want to download a card for a friend, you already have the equipment. A good USB 2.0 card reader should cost about $40-50.

I got my daughter that same camera for Christmas. She really likes it. I also got her a 512 card and a reader to go with it. I think that having two smaller card has more advantages than one large on at this time. Also the card reader is much faster and saves wear and tear on the camera. Hope you enjoy your new camera.
